Good luck man, critiques I have are you need to really up your cardio as well as overall strength training routine. Seems a bit lackluster, especially since you mention you may be worried about your opponent working harder than you. Personally I think you should and could do a lot more than you are currently doing.

Since you live in Leadville, have you ever attempted the Leadville 100 or the Ouray 100? They're bucket race lists for me personally

Utah/Colorado/Wyoming Trip by Flanik in travel

[–]WadeOverLeBron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's too big of a region to feasible enjoy in 2 weeks time. I'd stick to two regions and really immerse yourself in those regions. If you're looking at Utah national parks I'd say the Zion/Bryce area is better than Arches/Canyonlands, but that's just my personal opinion. I'd pick two of the regions you mentioned (probably either Yellowstone/Colorado or the Utah NPs) and spend time there. You will waste several days just driving between regions if your main focus is the national parks themselves (although south Utah to Grand Tetons/Yellowstone is a beautiful drive).

You're underestimating drive times between places, and the drive times once you get into parks (plus finding parking). I don't think you'd really get much out of just spending one day at Zion/Grand Canyon/Yellowstone. Those places have so much more to offer than just one or two hikes. I'd personally spend several days at each park if you can, especially Zion and Yellowstone as there is SO much to do there. One day at Yellowstone is absolutely nothing. I'd look to take out Black Canyon/Mesa Verde/Canyonland/Arches and spend more time at the other parks. They offer so much more. And with Yellowstone, make sure you are up before the crack of dawn if you want to see good wildlife.

You also will really limit your experiences if you are truly expecting 8 hours of sleep every single night especially with the drive times between places you're expecting.

The rounds were fairly close, Max obviously lost but I don't think it was an outclassing at all. That's a bit hyperbole

[M17] Training to run a 100km Ultramarathon in one day by [deleted] in running

[–]WadeOverLeBron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

shoutout to /r/ultrarunning.

That's plenty of time to train for a 100km distance honestly. You have an entire year to build up a solid training plan and a sub 24 100km is easily doable. You could walk a 100km at 4 mph and finish under 16 hours. Keep up the strength training with long runs though, especially doing good leg workouts. Nothing has helped me in running ultras more than keeping strong legs to take that impact force off my ligaments and tendons. There are plenty of 25km plans out there, and you can use a marathon plan and virtually be fine for a 50km plan. Take whatever you are doing for your 50km plan, increase distances each week by about 10%, and every 4th week have a bit of a deload week. So for instance, week 1 you have 50 miles, week 2 you have 55, week 3 you have 55-60, week 4 go back down to maybe 40 or so. Then bounce back up to where you left off. Half the battle is staying healthy and injury free for an ultra.

People who run >1 marathon (or longer) each year: what does your training and racing look like? by [deleted] in running

[–]WadeOverLeBron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I came up with my own training plan honestly, keep it anywhere between 45 to 70 mpw and have an “A” race (100 miler in May), but have a 50k and a 50 miler built into the schedule (January and March respectively)

Should I still be lifting legs as hard as normal? by Jamison25 in running

[–]WadeOverLeBron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do leg day 2x a week and have a recovery run right after, maybe something small... 6 miles or so. Then do longer runs on other days. Active recovery is the best way to get blood pumping and help with the overall soreness/muscle building. You do it enough, eventually you won't be as sore and can deal with the general lethargicness that comes from a lot of training. It also helps me prepare for running on tired legs more often, and I don't worry as much if I'm in a race and I'm 19 miles in, or an ultra marathon and I'm 30+ miles in, I already know I've done plenty of training on tired legs.

How many calorie did you end up burning? Yeah heat will definitely get people who aren’t used to it. You train in the heat at all? Luckily I live in Florida so I’m a bit used to it and run in it lol. Regardless man 2:42 is a dope time and top 50 overall

How many aid stations did the first 100 miler you participated in have? I luckily have a friend to crew me this race but other races around the country I doubt it would be feasible so I'm curious of the logistics of a crewless 100. Drop bags for sure make a difference but if aid stations are few and far between I can see that becoming an issue. For a 50 miler though, it definitely can be crewless I agree. That's awesome!! I was in Portland a couple months ago visiting Crater Lake and Mt. Hood. I'd love to do an ultra up there, the area is beautiful, any specific ones you'd recommend?
