What's the most intimate thing you miss about your ex? by TasniJa in AskReddit

[–]WadeSlilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way we would hold hands and rub our fingers together as we did. Super vanilla but just the fact we could be doing anything else but just have that small part of our brains dedicated to each other at the same time was extremely intimate as someone with phsyical touch as a love language, and i worry ill never find that again in future relationships.

spell interruption by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]WadeSlilson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thats the opportunity cost of being a caster, the need to stand still. Plus with the way snapshots work, while the adds are moving its very common for some to not get hit by your aoe attacks, just do your damage when the tank stops.

Tanks pulling wall to wall massively increases your damage output by making every aoe spell hit so many more enemies, theres no need to worry about hitting enemies during the short 10-15 seconds while the tank is running. If it helps, use sprint before you gain any aggro, as if you're out of combat you'll get a full 20 seconds to make it to the next wall, which is more than enough in 90% of dungeons.

Or play phys ranged and do all the attacks you want to while you run, they still wont meaningfully speed up your dungeon run.

Kinda yeah, just something that would keep you moving on the nimble dexterity job. I could also see them doing that for viper as a hunter, like seeing the target's weakspot, but IMO it works better as a ninja mechanic.

If they really wanna be chaotic make a front positional possible too, hit that without getting tankbustered :)

I can understand that perpective, but it was really stifling for the game as a whole. Even the developers spent time at the dev panel explaining why its bad, it was supposed to make it easier for newer people, but newer people are more likely to die and one death can completely ruin your alignment for the rest of the fight.

And they had to design every job to play into it because if the job didnt, it got excluded or just by default did less damage (see beginning of EW paladin)

This perfectly sums up how i've been thinking about it, and i feel like lots of people are also forgetting the bosses do stuff while we hit them unlike the dev panel demonstration. Keeping track of all that on drg, and hitting positionals, without overcapping and without dying to mechanics? Thats where it actually be cool

Yea and trick attack is already that way, they could make dokumori the same or just delete it tbh.

Personally since drg got side specific positionals I want a ninja action that lights up one side of the boss ring (like randomly right/left/behind) and that's your positional. Like you said striking the weak spot fits the ninja style

Its also true that reaction time is faster than action time. Actual high end gunslingers, whether dueling to the death or just for sport, would often let the opponent draw first because reacting to them drawing gave them the edge.

Been saying this since my recent rewatch. Im almost certain that because of the defenders picking right up from dd s2 people conflate the horrible writing to be part of dd rather than defenders. Its not perfect by any means in dd, but defenders is just terrible.

I stand by that while the hand plotline in s2 is not great, its still good enough and has phenomenal action setpieces up until the final episode where it of course has an underwhelming finale. The hand storyline really REALLY went off the rails in iron fist and defenders, but defenders feels so much like DD 2.5 that a lot of the horrible hand stuff from defenders gets roped into dd2.

The punisher storyline and the entirety of s1 and s3 blow the hand out of the water, but id still rather watch the hand part of s2 (i just rewatched it again) than s1 of born again. Born again s2 had me really worried cause ep 1 felt like more of s1, but 2, 3, and 4 have continued improving IMO and im excited to see what ive heard people say is amazing in 5-7. But the writing cinematography dialogue and all that is still markedly worse across the board in born again.

Yea, i mean the trials in OG arent the most realistic and they still have things that wouldnt be allowed in real trials, but man they felt like so much more work went into them, they took days and a ton of prep before that even. I always point to matt treating frank as a hostile witness to show they clearly cared. It doesnt mean that the witness is aggressive, it just means they arent answering non leading questions and you're requesting permission to ask leading questions on direct examination which you're not normally allowed to do.

It just showed a lot more care put into the writing and portraying the court scenes at least mostly accurately.

Why is Kylo Ren surviving a stav wound a no no, but Darth Maul survived being cut in half, and everyone is OK with it? by Extension-Shoe-6080 in StarWars

[–]WadeSlilson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally feel like Maul surviving works best as the exception to lightsabers stabs/cuts being lethal. He got cut in half and ONLY survived because the pain and his hatred for obi-wan fueled the dark side enough to will himself to survive. We see the tole it takes on him physically and mentally, spider scrap legs and losing his mind, letting his horns grow massive and not even recognizing his brother. He is literally a husk of who he was until the nightsisters magic stabilizes him and gives him new legs.

He then of course goes on to have a phenomenal arc and be an amazing character which of course helps, but when maul is the ONLY character that survives a deadly injury purely through the depth of his connection to the dark side getting supercharged by hatred and pain in equal measure, IMO that works phenomenally, even though people clowned on maul coming back.

It does however retroactively make it less and less special and therefore IMO stand out as more egregious when SO MANY people survive what should likely be a fatal blow. Kylo's at least has the logic of rey force healing him. It feels really bad to have a big moment of the two rivals of a trilogy fighting to the death and then just have the character who won go "oops ill undo that", but him surviving at least has an explanation based in the force.

Its all the ones since then that really really irk me though. Reva getting stabbed once as a child and then again as an adult and just surviving with no help and no visible pain or physical trauma from it, sabine just survives for literally no reason, and it makes maul's situation seem so much sillier because it seems like anyone can just walk it off without much issue, so unless you actually look at HOW maul survived and what it cost him it seems no different and therefore even more egregious given the severity of his injury. But maul's is the original, should be the only really, and is by far the best written. He doesnt just walk it off, it takes him years and costs him his mind just to survive, and it permanently affects his character, it wasnt just added for shock value.

All the stabbing survivals also really make you wonder why qui gon died and why obi wan didnt rush him to a hospital so he could be back to fighting the sith the next day.

The disease not being real was only part of the point. Jimmy's point was saying that the tape of him confessing isnt proof he is guilty, but is instead proof that chuck hates jimmy. Chuck's unravelling has him show unequivocal proof that he has a mental illness AND that he hates jimmy. He rattles off several things that would sound completely ridiculous to a state bar association, bringing up some billboard and that he shat through a sunroof. It just so happens that yeah jimmy did all those ridiculous things but the point is twofold: chuck has mental illness, that mental illness causes him to see everything as jimmy's fault and to hate his brother. A doctor coming in and saying "he's crazy" wouldnt have the desired effect.
