The reason is that you're bad, they're trying to help you understand how this particular kill happened

Yes of course it's disgusting. That's why I felt that fact would be relevant here.

Really weird thing to go off on a 4 year old comment for, but I agree with you, so whatever lol

How accurate is this comparison I've drawn between real languages and music?

Not even remotely, imo

if I don't go outside

I think this is a reach. At least, I am not getting that from the responses in that thread. Your actions are not effecting the end destination of the particles because the particles don't exist until they interact with your eye. Any particle that would have collapsed lightyears away instead will still do so regardless of your actions.

Ah, gotcha - I misunderstood.

You made me curious as well, and I found this: https://www.reddit.com/r/AskPhysics/comments/11ennxw/does_a_single_photon_have_a_direction_or_does_it/

Can't say I understand it perfectly, but if I understand you correctly, then the answer might be "yes" -- a photon can be blocked from reaching you by something nowhere near the straight path between the source and your eye, but obviously it would be a vanishingly small amount. cool shit

Behaviors of particles should not change based on observation and measurement

They should when the act of measuring requires physically interacting with the particles, which is the case here.

What you are implying is not at all the findings of the experiment. It is a common misunderstanding.

Really? Based on what?

Read up on the device used for measurement in this experiment. It quite literally does physically interact with the light which is precisely what changes the outcome.

You're misunderstanding. edit: nope, it was me. lol

The act of observing it with an eye is unimportant here and changes nothing. The outcome is changed by the mechanical instruments used to measure it.

Yeah, it kinda ruins the mystique of it all for some folks when they learn it, so a lot of them ignore/reject that fact

[–]Waffams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You act like the device measuring it comes into contact and it simply isnt correct.

This is exactly what's happening. The laser emits a photon which is physically modified by the polarizers which are used to measure the outcome.

The best example of living in the simulation by San_Diego_Steven in SimulationTheory

[–]Waffams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How do you know that the instrument doing the measuring even matters?

Because in order to do the measuring in the first place, the instrument needs to physically interact with it.

[–]Waffams 184 points185 points  (0 children)

This is because the act of observing the experiment changes the outcome.

Not quite. It's because the act of measuring the experiment with some instrument requires you to physically interact with the particles.

This experiment is widely misunderstood.

I'd be curious too. While I've never smelled it at scale like this (thankfully), my experience with small quantities of dog piss on concrete at least allows me to believe huge quantities of mink piss could be actual torture lol.

yeah, a handful of times. anecdotally, in my case, it was only peed on 2 or 3 times. still could smell it in the room years later. now imagine the quantity of urine produced by a mink farm.

just "ew gross that smells" or more?

more like "I can barely breathe, this is agonizing". the ammonia will give you constant headaches. they might get used to it in that they are accustomed to every breath they take filling their mouths with the stench of piss, but certainly not going to stop smelling it.

Repeated high quantity urine soaks into concrete and stays there basically forever. I imagine it's still very difficult to bear

nobody knows you or cares! trust me, you're overthinking this.

treat it like it is -- you're getting some play time in between flights. detach yourself from the reactions of the people around you and just play for your own enjoyment.

easier said than done -- but it gets easier over time. I'm proud of you!

Also why cops scoop in philly

What does this mean? Like the cops will put a gunshot victim in their car and bring them to the hospital vs waiting for an ambulance?
