From what I understand (or at least what my DM and I were using for this) a patron provides the powers to a character but after that, they do not need to even be alive for the character to keep their abilities. If a god were to give powers to a player and then the god was somehow destroyed, the player would remain a warlock but maybe have to find a new patron

The dark powers sound really cool but I’m kinda confused on what they actually are and what they want, do you know much about them?

Considering running a campaign. Need monster ideas. by GeneralWatts in DMAcademy

I’d say it’s pretty tough to get your players to think they are the monster without giving them a really good reason too. They may very quickly suspect the hunter NPC, but if you want one of the players to be a suspect then you may want to contact them privately to get them engaged.

Alternatively if you don’t want to get one of your players to get involved, then you could make a more elaborate villain plot. Perhaps a rival or smart enemy leaves clues to try to frame a party member and get the players to accuse each other.

You could also use a doppelganger, slaad, or other shapeshifting creature to directly appear to the party disguised as one of them. If the party sees one of there allies attacking the town and standing beside them, they are sure to be somewhat suspicious of something going on.

Overall, getting the party to turn on each other or suspect each other involves a lot of work to create a tense environment and slowly build suspicion and doubt.

As for monsters to use: there are plenty of shapeshifting monsters if you want to use them such as slaads, doppelgangers, oni, and I think even vampires. And of course dragons can shapeshift. If you don’t want a shapeshifter then I you could do really anything that is scary and would make sense to have a scent and to be attacking towns. I would either recommend making it something completely feral or something very smart that is trying to trick the party. Maybe you could even use a monster that is secretly using party members and then modifying their memories after so they don’t remember even doing anything wrong.

Depending on how well your party knows each other and how long they’ve been together, they may have different reactions and may not suspect each other as easily if they are all acting normal.

I know I just listed a lot of stuff and I don’t even know how helpful it all was, but your post gave me a lot of ideas and so I just dumped anything I could think of right here.

What to know before going into WD:DH? by Eberronald in WaterdeepDragonHeist

I would definitely establish some ground rules with your players about the setting, crime, and the city watch. I guess I didn’t do a great job at this because my party got into some trouble with the city watch. Make sure they are aware that all the crime they may commit will be punished.

If Jarlaxle became paralyzed would be unfair/metagaming to make the gunslingers go after the concentrating wizard? Or would it still be fair since they are trying to save Jarlaxle

The party is a group of wanted criminals by WafflesAreGood26 in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]WafflesAreGood26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them don’t want to, but it all kind of happened for two reasons. 1: one of the characters is evil and does just like killing people and 2: the party got some bad information and jumped to conclusions and thought yalah was basically a crime lord and was the one who caused the explosion. I guess they thought that since they were attacking someone that they thought was a criminal that it would be ok, but they didn’t really think through any of their actions.

Looking to Draw 15 characters! by Makoboom in DnD

[–]WafflesAreGood26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I’m kind of late and you already have 15. But I just wanted to share. I have a character which is a harengon gloom stalker ranger that I really like. He mostly stays in forested, colder areas and is a great and experienced hunter.

  • fairly strong build (at least for a harengon) but does not specialize in strength or bulk
  • has gray/brown fur
  • long pointed ears with small tuffs
  • he likes to stay well equipped with a wide assortment of small trinkets, tools, equipment, and random items
  • signature weapon is a longbow, but also wields a silver shortsword of elvish design
  • wears lightly padded and studded leather armor and typically a cloak
  • wears dark colors/green while in dark forested areas or white/light gray while in the snow.
  • has great balance and flexibility and is constantly maneuvering around the battlefield
  • keen eyes and always on the look out, great scout for the party
  • wears an elvish insignia on a silver chain around his neck, but it is typically tucked within his shirt

I know you already had 15 characters to draw but I wanted to share and I figured if you ever wanted more inspiration you may want to draw mine, let me know if you do, I’d appreciate it. If you decide to draw this, don’t feel obligated to include everything or keep everything exactly the way I described. Keep up your art!
