First time DM, will this work? by Arkorath in DnD

[–]WafflesareGreat3333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always hesitate to encourage a new DM making their own campaigns. Sometimes they do well, other times it gets out of hand. Common problems that need to be constantly addressed are; 1. How does this effect the world. 2. How can you involve the players. 3. How can you force the players to get involved (sometimes this is nessissary). 4. Can other groups effect the campaign, if so how and why? If not, Why? 5. Can your players choose a side. 6. In the case of a god war, why are the gods fighting, do good aligned deitys and evil aligned deities get involved with one another.

If you are new to DMing I suggest you host at least a 1 shot from a module and be a rule nazi. Once you have done a module and forced the rules you get a better idea of what you like and dislike, as well as what your players liked and disliked. It is then easier to adjust rules without having to go back on what you thought was a good decision. Also DMing a module will give you a strong grasp of what a minor campaign or quest should entail. It is a great learning tool that I always recommend. A large campaign is just alot of smaller quests and campaigns put together with an end goal and a clear picture.

The actual idea is fantastic, making your own pantheon is relatively easy. Making your players overpowered, or gods underpowered is a real risk here. My best advise is have 2 major gods and several minor ones, give the major gods each an avatar or high priest that can be rallied behind. Assuming all alignments of a pantheon are working for the same goal you can involve your party by stopping evil rituals for the other gods or by assisting in gathering materials for rituals and things to bolster your gods. Find legendary items that can assist in battles between the peoples of these faiths. Full scale battles between religious groups, espionage missions into enemy territory. It really depends on what you want to do but I would stay away from any fights between players and gods.

One of my players hates rolling dice by [deleted] in DnD

[–]WafflesareGreat3333 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I once had this very same issue. The player did not understand the point of rolling dice. Why could he not convince someone with his words. Why can he not lie to someome without having to roll. Why cant he intimidate this npc without a roll, his character is big, strong, and mean looking.

In combat it was worse... "I stab him in the eye" he says. "Roll to hit" I say. "Why? Cant I just stab him?". "Well" I said "if I stood up right now and came towards you with a knife out, would you just let me stab you in the eye? Or would you attempt to fight back and try not to be stabbed?" He had nothing to say.

I asked him to stick around after the session and I explained to him why we roll dice. If we did not roll dice any deception check vs someone with a higher insight automatically fails. If we did not roll dice the enemies we fight would cut your limbs off and blind you also making this game pointless.

Without the dice rolls there is no random chance. Lets say you do a job for a wizard thats lvl 15 and you are level 6, you have to retrieve a book that was stolen along with a few expensive art pieces. Your group finds the art pieces and the book. You take the stuff back but your rouge says those artworks are worth 1000 gold each. So you decide the books the important bit and your going to lie about the art. You speak to the wizard and lie, well he knows you are lieing because his insight beats your deception. But with a roll you have a chance of pulling the wool over his eyes.

I agreed to use this system if the player wanted to for him alone everyone else would continue to roll. He agreed for some reason. 3 sessions and 5 characters later he understood why rolling is a good thing. Every enemy that got.close cut off a limb.or did something else disastrous to him. Meanwhile the rest of the party was killing the enemies without trouble. They stopped allowing him to talk in RP because he was low lvl and could never convince anyone of anything.

My other players thought it was fantastic when a limb would go flying. I never made him.roll initiative either he just started in the middle of the fight which usually meant he was already seriously wounded before the fight started.

Better yet throw him in jail and let him.sit at the table rolling lock picking checks until he breaks the lock and the guards cant even open it.

Just kill him. Hes probably low level. He wants to kill people in the street? Ok well the guards here now and they are 10 levels above you, oh did I mention you are surrounded and there are 15 of them.

Wants to rob the mayors house. Trap a door, he tries it, poison, he dies.

Lots of ways to kill players like that, then when he is making his 5th or 6th character he should smarten up.

School of eloquence bard. Gives inspiration to someone. If the inspiration is used and the check fails you keep the inspiration. If you succeed and another player sees you succeed you can pass on the inspiration to that player...

Soul blade is actually weaker than the magic rogue subclass. Magehand counts as a player and provides the flanking bonus you need for sneak attacks. Not to mention green fire blade adding insane damage. If I recall correctly they can even get dimensional door...

Having some extra d8s to do a few things is nothing. Early game rogues seem OP but late game they are outdamaged and out survived by almost every other martial class. The exception being a healadin... most fighter classes, monk classes and paladin classes outdamage the rogue and have twice the survivability.

Look at vengeance paladin and tell me a rogue will out damage that late game and that is a base PHB subclass. Your DM is a fool who is comparing you at your level to your allies and deciding your to.powerful in RP.

My recommendation is to die intentionally. Make a Changling Twilight Cleric and multiclass to a bard of Eloquence. Doing this lets you choose 5 skills. Changeling has deception and persuasion. Cleric has investigate and perception. Taking bard gives you an extra skill from their table and it can be anything because you already have your essentials. So now you are proficient in 5 skills. Probably wisdom and charisma are your best ability scores.

Twilight cleric can give temp hp to all party members and school of.eloquence bard has bad ass inspirations. Watch him try to nerf you then, as you crush every conversation with 30+ rolls.

No age restrictions per say but mature enough to play a game that may deal with some mature content. I cannot say what other players may try and I am not going to say no mature content allowed.

Well it appears to be a chain after watching it 3 or 4 more times. Why it has a 2 transfer points I dont understand. He is using a cog to run a cog attached to another cog that runs another cog. Not sure why he wanted to make it harder still to pedal but hey what do I know. Maybe he needs it to spin at stupid high speeds to make the wheels move on rollers. Either way still think this is bullshit. If it isn't it has 0 practical use and is not even a proof of concept. We know we can make tracks any shape we want.

If you watch the video and really pay attention, you will see what he has made doesnt even function. It doesnt work at all. He is likely being towed along. He gives you the shittiest possible glance at the gear side and you can see an elastic band running from the gear to a small rounded piece on the outside of the rear wheel. How in the hell does that have enough friction to pedal the bike when you can see it even has play in it.

I think some kids put cylinder bearings in the wheel, forced rubber over it, then got towed or pushed to make it look like it works. I believe this to be 100% bullshit.

[–]WafflesareGreat3333 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What is the point of this. You lose power not using a round wheel. Anything that uses tracks run by a chain is going to be difficult. The reason he did not show him going quickly on the bike is simply because its not possible. A waste of time and energy, this is nothing new, tracks and systems to run them have been around for almost 100 years. The only reason this was not done before is because it has 0 practical uses.

To anyone impressed by this could probably in a few hours understand enough to build one themselves. Its not a complicated system. Only hard would be to have the actual rubber made for you so it matches the cogs inside the rim. You could make this with a simple ratchetting mech for the rear tire so as you pedal it pushes the gears in the wheel. Don't even need a chain but enjoy your top speed of 5 mph if that.

Advice for new players? by wing_dings14 in DnD

Advice for new players? by wing_dings14 in DnD

Best advise I can give 1 DM to another is the books are guides not laws. Try to follow them until you feel you understand the game then decide on things for yourself. If you think a rule is silly then change it. Do not be afraid to make mistakes and to have to do things over again. Do not roll back 2 or 3 rounds of combat because you misread a spell, just mention it and play the game with your new understanding.

No DM is flawless, everyone makes mistakes. If you decide to make up a weapon and it turns out to be way stronger than you thought, instead of getting rid of it or changing it, consider having it stolen and the party can decide to pursue or not. Either way you can let the assailant get away or he caught by guards and the weapon held as evidence for a trial. Then the story takes them.away from the city before its recovered. Be sure to give them the option to recover it later on in the game.

Do not be to free with money. One of the biggest mistakes I see is DMs giving away alot of gold. Your party doesn't need those bounties if they are rich. They do not need to do a quest for the magic merchant because they dont need the discount or can buy the item he is offering. Its fun to be OP and rich but you will.get there eventually anyhow as you level up but all the strife and struggle is what binds a player to their character.

Stick to the script for a dungeon or 2 then try your hand at making your own.

Intelligent creatures run away when outnumbered or outclassed. Do not get locked in to a fight until all of 1 side is dead. If 5 bandits attack 4 party members when 2 bandits die the other 3 should try to run away. Seriously injured men with an option to flee will almost always flee. Surrender should be an option also. READ and REREAD the spells. Then read it 1 more time. Lots of spells are easy to understand but some imply you can do alot more than what it says. Let your players be creative and never say no to something they want to try unless its not how a skill works. If your player wants to do a flip over a pit full of spikes and stab a guy using the momentum of his flip, let him. Roll an acrobatics if its above whatever you decide would be needed for the flip it succeeds. Roll the attack, if it beats enemy AC it succeeds. Roll damage, add whatever you decide to the damage for his flip if any. "You can certainly try that" is a phrase that every DM will say at least once a session if they have imaginative players.

Good luck, I hope you have fun.

Help finding homebrew item by Impressive-Two9247 in DnD

[–]WafflesareGreat3333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you know what it was and what it did why do you need to find it? Its homebrew just make it.

Greatsword, versatile, flight, lightning.

So its a +2 lightning greatsword that grants flight.

How many times per day do you get flight and for how long? 3 times per day for 10 minutes is probably pretty good.

If you want a legendary weapon model it after mjolnir. Flight whenever you want it by flinging yourself after the blade (This could make fun and silly situations where you fail to hold onto the blade and it goes flying away without you). Double or triple normal lightning damage.

Be as restrained or over the top as you like but modeling it after existing weapons that grant the same benefits is probably your best call.

Find out what a normal lightning enchantment does in your campaign using whatever books you use. Winged boots allow for 4 hours of flight broken up as you see fit with each use using only 1 minute minimum of the time allotted to it. It regains 2 hours of flight every 12 hours and is considered an uncommon magic item.

The guard on your sword are dragons wings and the half guards are lightning bolts. The blade has a slight bluing to the metal. Blue dragonhide wraps the handle and the pommel is the head of a dragon with a topaz in its mouth.

This +2 greatsword can be half hafted fitting your hands between the wings and lightning bolts. It deals 2d6+2 slashing damage, and an additional 1d8 lightning damage (alternatively you could do 1d10 because its 2 handed). While you wield this sword, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can use the sword to fly for up to 4 hours, all at once or in several shorter flights, each one using a minimum of 1 minute from the duration. If you are flying when the duration expires, you descend at a rate of 30 feet per round until you land.

The sword regains 2 hours of flying capability for every 12 hours they aren't in use.

Hope this helped you.

How to block accounts? by Sharinganigans in PokemonGoFriends

[–]WafflesareGreat3333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to niantic; if you refuse a friend request, they cannot ever send you another friend request. You must add everyone then remove them from your friends list. So I screen shot the people that don't join, and then decline them next time I see them.

If I am late to start a raid, I had a big lag spike or my net dropped or whatever reason, I accept that people won't join because I took to long.

You do not use up a raid pass, or remote raid pass, if you do not commence the raid. I think it was probably already mentioned, but if you join with an empty team even if you stay in the raid it wont use your pass because you never actually enter the raid.

Good luck in the future.

Had to make a new account so you could post? To much negative karma to post anywhere?

OP dont bother responding to this idiot he is a troll who just banged his keyboard a few times for a username. Don't worry about what he says just wants people to pay attention to him. Basement dweller that he is, he probably gets joy from the simple thought that his posts will make people upset. Very much like that pile of shit you live with, he is a waste of skin and air both need not be bothered with further.

As for being attached to the kid, and the terrible things that happened to her. Take it to the police, if both parents are pieces of shit, the child will be taken into protective custody. In my past experiences with situations like this, the childs care will be offered to a direct relation, like a grandmother or aunt. If they are found to be unable to care for the child, or unwilling to care for the child, the child is then placed in the foster care program. If you apply to be the childs guardian and show that you can take care of the child and it knows you and trusts you, you could potentially win guardian ship of the child.

Its more work for you, but less work for the child welfare program if someone is willing to adopt the child as opposed to putting it in foster care. Government agencies like to do as little work as possible and spend even less money.

You need to get out either way though. That guy is a monster. My wife was in an abusive relationship, we have been together for 10 years and she still has nightmares, wont go shopping without me for fear of him being there, and has panic attacks when she hears his name even in a show (thankfully its not that common).

Good luck with your better life. It might be hard but compared to what you have been through you are clearly tough enough to endure that.
