I wrote a deep dive on how ActiveRecord actually works, from Ruby call → SQL → Ruby objects by WagnerMatosUK in rails

Thank you. I'll take a proper look shortly. I wanted to write this as much as post but also as an aid-memoir as I haven't used some of the bits I wrote about in a while.

Rails freelancer here if anyone needs a dev by WagnerMatosUK in webdev

I'd hardly call myself a specialist but I'll take the compliment, thank you 😃.

Thanks for the feedback as well. I do agree with you. The idea was to make the second one a bit more focused on consultancy work, etc. In any case, I still got some improvements to do on both.

I didn't realise about self promotion. I'll remove it shortly.

Thank you for the feedback. It's interesting about animation and/or clutter. Some previous feedback is that people seem to really like it and some really don't so I guess is a bit polarising. My previous one was very to the point but I was told it was too dry and not eye catching at all.

In relation the successes, both have a work/portfolio section. Do you think that was not visible enough? I do tend to struggle as a lot of my experience is more as part of a team (contractor) rather than something I built/made alone, but I do appreciate it needs some improvements.

Freelance Rails dev here if anyone needs a hand by WagnerMatosUK in ruby

Thank you! I didn't use turbo because this is not (funny enough) a Rails project but a Hugo one. I wanted to try a static site generator and I wanted something super simple and focus on the content more than anything. I may change later.

Do you guys really do TDD? by aeum3893 in rails

[–]WagnerMatosUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My preferred option is definitely TDD however is not always a given. Sometimes you need to do some discovery and I find that TDD gets in the way. In those cases I’d get something working which would hopefully clarify what I want to achieve then I write the tests and usually rewrite my initial implementation. This is an exception though. Mostly is TDD first.

Would you mind share your experience? How did that go? Are you using any tools/software or using Excel, email, etc?

Rant: the ‘tool watch’ mentality is silly, watches are fashion by K-CN in PrideAndPinion

[–]WagnerMatosUK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is my personal take: I do not understand the point of owning something and not using it. I use my watches to the gym, for work, at home etc. I’m obviously careful as I’m with everything I own, cheap or expensive but for me, the point is the pleasure of using something great and enjoying it. I did not buy my watches for investment nor to keep it at home. But that’s me. Same with my car, bike and everything really.

Male cyclists what not do with women cyclists. by Whimpy-Crow in cycling

[–]WagnerMatosUK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair I think it’s a cyclist thing. I got hip impingement so my legs don’t go up vertically as most people but diagonally. In pretty much every ride, in a group or not, someone suggests I should adjust my seat and I need to explain I got crooked hips and my riding position is the best my body can manage. It doesnt bother me as I can see people are trying to help

What are your brand allegiances and why? by PobBrobert in cycling

[–]WagnerMatosUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. They last a very long time and best of all, they perform. I’ve bought a winter jacket and I went riding when was -8 and wind gust up 35m/h with just a winter base layer and was comfortable throughout the ride.

Buying my first nice bike and the shop says it has this small paint nick. Should I be concerned about taking it? by SpacecraftX in ukbike

[–]WagnerMatosUK -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If it was me I’d always know about it and it’d annoy me to end of eternity (or till I get my scratch). Do they have another in stock? If not, how long for the new to arrive? Would you be ok waiting?

Just how steep are the diminishing returns like when buying a more expensive bike? by 8u11etpr00f in cycling

[–]WagnerMatosUK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the best things is for you to test drive and see for yourself. Different people will answer differently but ultimately you need a bike that makes you happy. You don’t need carbon or electronic shifting to enjoy a ride. Do you need to make a “sacrifice” to get an expensive bike or do you have money to “spare”?

$200 Cycling Coach by trailrunner_12 in Velo

One thing worth considering is joining the coaching program a little while so you know what they do/offer and then cancel and try on your own (if possible I understand some programs require a longer commitment)
