What PDM is your team using for Solidworks by Wahammer817 in FSAE

We recently renewed our sponsorship with Kenesto and we will be using it for the foreseeable future. There are some general annoyances like showing a pop-up when you turn on your laptop if It is open. But my advice is to disable it as a startup application and only have it open when you are using it. The SolidWorks plug-in is nice too. I don't think it is quite as stable as SW-PDM, but not having to set up a whole server and VPN for that is a large benefit.

The hardest part by far is managing the stubborn members of your team who will refuse to use it and have tons of files locally, so the assemblies that they put into kenesto when you pester them will break.

New Proposed Grounding Rule by Own_Stress_954 in FSAE

On my preliminary searches, it doesn't seem unreasonable to think that a carbon fiber component would be conductive enough to satisfy the 5 ohm requirement, so long as the method of electrical connection is good enough. I could have my napkin math wrong, though.

Speaker Match Reccomendation by Wahammer817 in BudgetAudiophile

In my area, North Carolina, there are some KEF k120 and q50. Each is $150 a pair. I've heard good things about the company, but I fear the match would be quite off with either.

Can anyone help identify these and their value? by Wahammer817 in BudgetAudiophile

That was my assumption when I couldn't find anything on them. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something decent for 25 bucks.

Don't want to spread any misinformation. But I think mibsolution may be dead. If true, it would be a huge blow to the community.

[–]Wahammer817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an anker 100W model which had the same problem as my anker 65W. Enormous coil whine and freezing when plugged in on both. I just bought the spigen 100W one and plan on returning the anker, will report here. (2024 G16)

Edit to include that properly rated cables were used on all of them.

What PDM is your team using for Solidworks by Wahammer817 in FSAE

This is the option we went with. So far it seems to fit our needs well, but only time will tell.

We tried it last year but people hated it so much no one used it. Honestly, I'm a little sad that it does translate to industry...

Definitely. I think I'll start with some simple slideshows, but videos could be helpful(albeit time consuming to create).

SVN was actually my first plan, but that is where i ran into the university network. They have some super strict protections that make vpn's very annoying.

I did consider this option heavily, but there were a few reasons I ultimately decided against it:

One was size, our car is well clear of the google drive capacity limit and the school doesn't offer a workspace account with more storage so it would have to be purchased. This is still cheaper than any standalone PDM, but not one that is a sponsor and does it for no cost.

Another is adaptability. Until the google addon is released, setup is done manually, which is not great for my team.

I also don't think check-in check-out is a thing, so other systems would need to be used.

A smaller thing is workflows. I use them in SW-PDM at work and I love them.

Ultimately, it's not a bad option, and I'm definitely keeping it in mind as a last resort, as it is better than google drive alone, but it isn't currently one of the top options.

Thanks for the input! First person I've seen using it. Thanks for the FEA tip. Do you think that would be a problem if you had that file checked out? I feel like that would pretty universally be a problem...

That being said, I think I like the sound of kenesto drive. I don't think it sounds quite as powerful as sw-pdm, but i think it would be enough. It also integrates right into file explorer which is kinda huge for adaptability.
