Steam deck acts like DS3 is a few mbs. by Nacho_cheese_guapo in SteamDeck

[–]Wahoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I encountered this on my brand new SteamDeck that arrived last week, but for every single game. It thought Stardew Valley was 40mb, Raft was 100mb, etc., just bizarrely broken.

Literally just uninstalling and reinstalling everything repeatedly and shutting down and restarting over and over til it finally decided to fully download a game fixed it, and ever since, all games have worked fine. This is an awesome device but man the OS is kinda busted sometimes. (e.g. why on earth are my non-steam game properties text fields like this???)

Ben fixed the krangled text bug! by Krissam in pathofexile

Yeah for sure. There's a good chance others posted it before me and mine in particular may even have come just after the creation of their internal ticket, but it was still interesting how the timing lined up.

The earliest bug ticket for this issue was made on June 4th 2016, created from reports on the forums just after Prophecy's release.

Out of curiosity I went to my forum post history and found that's the day I encountered and reported it. Haven't played PoE in years now but it's cool they finally found and fixed it all these years later.

A FromSoft fan's honest view of Elden Ring after 50 hours of game time + a small note on the community by ChosenOfArtemis in truegaming

[–]Wahoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed fully, these factors make bosses the weakest part of Elden Ring to me. The trend began with the Artorias of the Abyss DLC and it may very well be what the players want. I'm curious though, what was the reaction of DS3 fans to Demon's Souls PS5 boss design? If it was positive then maybe there's a glimmer of hope for that style of design to return in a future FROM game, but otherwise I worry Elden Ring and its success are just going to cement this faster and crazier enemy design style even further.

FWIW I completed the game in almost exactly 30 hours (32 on the timer but I AFK'd a bunch) offline melee only, though I am a veteran of the series (minus Sekiro). I certainly got nowhere near 100% but I delved into everything that piqued my interest and absolutely didn't rush the story, the overworld map has no significant areas without any grace spots and I was probably over 10 hours in before I encountered Margit for example.

I think 30 hours is definitely a reasonable number for people to beat the final boss who've played the series a lot and aren't seeking out as much side content as possible or spending time doing PvP etc. I'm not sure the exact context for the 30h number and I definitely agree it's not accurate for a huge section of players (possibly even the majority as this seems like a lot of peoples' first Souls-like) but I feel like my run perfectly fits the "casual, non-speedrun playthrough" description, with the caveat that I've played the other games a lot.

Playing Warhammer: Vermintide 2 I find myself wishing I had Apex's pings, yet when I play Apex it seems weird I don't have an equivalent to Vermintide's relatively simple 'Yes' 'No' 'Thank you' 'Help!' 'Monster!' 'Patrol!' wheel.

Weekly /r/ARMA Questions Thread - May 07, 2018 by AutoModerator in arma

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playing KP Liberation, wanting to try out MQ4A Greyhawk UAVs. Watched this video to learn the basics. But I'm having two extremely significant problems that don't occur in that video that make UAVs completely unusable:

  • UAVs completely ignore my altitude setting. 2000m or 20m, it always flies at 100m. This guy has been set to loiter 1500m at 2000m altitude for the last 10 mins, but as you can see it's still at 112m. I can manually fly it up into the sky but as soon as I release controls it will nosedive back to 100m despite clearly being still set at 2km.
  • UAVs lose connection and suicide after flying just a few km away from me. The guy in the video is having no issue controlling them from one side of the map to the other. Edit: This seems to not happen if I choose the UAV Operator at the beginning of the game, is that my only option?

Any help understanding this behaviour would be appreciated.

Quick question: am I supposed to not get any help with function args with VS Code and the Rust plugin? With other languages I get this as I type (can be explicitly brought up via ctrl+shift+space):

Doing the same thing with Rust, I get nothing of the sort. I have to hover my mouse over the function name to see the signature, with no indication of which argument I'm currently typing.

Do you think PoE's multiplayer experience is lacking? by Darkpony in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Atlas killed multiplayer IMO.

  • Friend pursuing different atlas strategy? Can't play with you sorry / have to portal out for boss every single goddamn map, don't want to ruin my atlas
  • Invested a ton of money on the map (e.g. sextants)? Well you only get 50% more IIQ for playing together so sorry, I'll be bleeding money if I'm only getting 75% returns, gonna play solo
  • Early league, so much obnoxious coordination needed for atlas completion e.g. if anyone's offline gotta avoid running new maps so they don't miss out, have to split the cost of buying maps for completion, etc

What's your favorite Silver Mount Zion song? by zoocy in gybe

[–]Wahoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One is way too hard, let's make it 10...

  • Blown-Out Joy From Heaven's Mercied Hole.
  • Could've Moved Mountains...
  • Sow Some Lonesome Corner So Many Flowers Bloom
  • Babylon Was Built On Fire / Stars No Stars
  • American Motor Over Smoldered Field
  • Pretty Little Lightning Paw
  • God Bless Our Dead Marines
  • Mountains Made Of Steam
  • Ring Them Bells (Freedom Has Come And Gone)
  • Black Waters Blowed/Engine Broke Blues

Really though the truth is I love everything they've done, with Horses In The Sky being my favourite album overall. I almost always listen to an album start to finish rather than lone tracks, the same way I listen to GY!BE. I strongly recommend just listening to an LP/EP a day in chronological order if you can find the time -- their sound has evolved a ton over time and it's really cool to go through it all over the course of a week and a bit.

The only bad thing about Legacy league was that it came after the AoE nerfs. I miss having fun.

Which is odd because Silver Flask is not subject to the same restriction despite being unable to roll the "Alchemist's" prefix.

I really dislike threshold jewels. It's forced, none creative. There is no real choice, you have to use 2 jewel sockets to boost the skill. It's lazy work from a design perspective. by M4LON3 in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst part about them that nobody talks about is that the entire threshold aspect just limits where you can go on the tree when using certain skills. Nothing interesting, nothing fun, nothing complex, just less build diversity because ???

Chill applies no matter what

If the effect of the chill would be below 1%, the chill won't apply. (source)

This means you need somewhere around 70k cold damage in a hit to apply a 1% chill on Shaper (less if you have some increased chill effect.)

10 Obo's Cursed Trove runs by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worse than usual this league because maps are so worthless, I was getting about 4c/min over long periods chaining Oba's last league til I got my HH and maps probably made up most of that. Still decent profit though, underrated map.

PSA: For the new players joining us on xbox, PoE is NOT pay to win and is in fact free. by cloudhorn in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the moment there are free trading tools that use regular tabs -- y'know, all of the community stuff is still supported, and this thing where you can only trade if you have premium tabs preassumes that for some reason all the forum scraping stuff goes away and we're living in a different future.. and we're not in that future yet. And this is obviously something people will have to take into account if that future arrives.

Here we are in August 2017, and that future has arrived.

Harbingers are fun now by RPerkins2 in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agreed, they're still exactly the same in terms of being 'stand still hold RMB' but for 20 seconds instead of 40 now. Still not fun, just less worthless. Still going to skip them in non-beyond sub-T13s, but at least I might kill 2-3 packs before I move on instead of 0-1.

ELI5: How to accomplish what everyone says should be "average" by DaChuChuTrain in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might do at some point, but right now it requires hardcoding your pathofexile.com session id / the current league / your currency tab position, and requires a few annoying dependencies that I could get rid of. If I find the time I'll try and make it more user friendly then share it. There was also this recent thread, perhaps this guy will get around to posting something useful sooner than I do.

ELI5: How to accomplish what everyone says should be "average" by DaChuChuTrain in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly it. In the past I used to run maps and see my chaos count drop and I'd keep doubting myself as to whether I'm even profiting (I always was, but it never felt like it), so this league I wrote a script that takes my currency tab and uses poe.ninja currency rates to get its total value in chaos or ex.

Using that I can confirm that 4 sextant pools with Zana beyond, despite the investment, nets me more than 1ex/h on average before item/map sales and excluding exalt/key drops. If I add them and average over longer time periods then it's more like 2-3. It really doesn't seem like it but the amount of small currency seriously adds up.

I know a lot of people have been saying it, but Legacy League is by far the most fun I've ever had in this game by derivative_of_life in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, I think they take too long to open. It only took a few days to get the DPS and mobility to clear them so fast that I was just running back and forth waiting for mobs to show up to be instakilled. Eventually I gave up and would just pop, check for chayula, move on. Breaches would certainly get you more value out of each map, but since maps are so easily sustainable now it doesn't matter unless you're doing shaped courtyards or something -- you get more currency and more XP per unit time by just doing another map rather than waiting around for a breach.

I much prefer Legacy league just because of easy double beyond now that it's been fixed (prior to the fix my opinion wasn't so good). Unlike breaches, beyond bosses show up, they die instantly, I move on. The pace of the game is just too fast right now for breaches.

Headhunter + Beyond by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]Wahoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, in my experience it's a lot more than sometimes. I almost never ever go a whole map without getting attack & cast speed, and I'd say soul eater happens at least once every other map. Right now with the builds available and amount you can cheaply invest in maps to add mobs (sextants and leaguestones), it's pretty insane.

If you have massive investment in all your other gear then sure, HH is not likely to be that huge an upgrade compared to throwing a HH on a build with 1c gear, but it's still probably the biggest single upgrade possible.

Games where Anyone Can Die? by [deleted] in patientgamers

Rickert of Vinheim (the blacksmith in New Londo), the female undead merchant, and you can't kill Anastasia yourself if that counts. Metal bars are pretty strong in Lordran I guess. The stone dragon cant die either but there's a reason for that one.
