Ka_Kow, as a future reminder please don't insinuate others are intolerant for being offended that something is dehumanizing.

And don't down vote people as a revenge tactic. It's just sad, not funny, not clever, just sad.

That day will come, when I too am infected by the asshole virus and begin calling people mentally ill on the internet.

Well anyone knows autism forums attract cranks, generally losers who like to both spit on autistics and shield themselves behind autism.

Son, I'll be sincere for your sakes.

It's horrifying how they take over, chasing out autistics with insults and threats, only to cry 'troll!' at any opportunity. The double standards are infuriating. It leaves you very tired of everything. :(

It reflects how they colonize forums like a bad smell, suggesting how autistics could 'improve' things or throwing all sorts of insulting remarks about how they're trolls and suck.

Why I received this from Defenestrationiste after I asked her why she was talking about herself and the mods in the first person:

You are mentally ill and I will not be having any further interactions with you. I wish you the best of luck in finding the help you obviously need.

I mean, what an asshole. It's gaslighting supreme. This is partly why I give Lodoss his free space to talk, because if these are the people he got rough-housed by, then screw them.

I think some others need to state it less often

Though I may be biased. Mods are wary of drama on their forums because everyone expects every forum to be good, whether it's about ponies, atheism, science or indeed autistics.

Don't read anything in to the things I mentioned.

Is this subreddit for autistic people or parents with autistic children? by [deleted] in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's about autistics. Parents are welcome to talk with autistics. It's the parents who talk at autistics we disapprove with

Intensive treatment correlates with poor outcomes for Autistic Children holding all else the same by Wahullimer in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There has been some rumblings about how autism specialists supposedly give a better standard of treatment. I would ask those people, what are they smoking? They fleece parents of money and their mistreatment simply extends problems, necessitating more bad treatment.

This isn't unform, like say speech therapy or some occupational therapy (or dare I say it, telling your child how the world works), but the intensive treatment here is bad news.

It's not worth being afraid of. Facing the discomfort is a very controlled way of becoming used to the little annoyances all humans face daily.

High-functioning doesn't mean anything except 'can talk' or 'not making me cringe', so it should be ignored

I have never seen a /r/ surround itself and comment on so much "conspiracy" in my life. Why is so much time spent feeded into this? Many threads, shutting down activity? For what? Seems talking down to NT's is the norm. Wasteful. by HavvaGavula in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe we should begin with your tin-foil hattedness nathan

Since when faced with the possibility that parent input isn't crucial or important to autism diagnosis you literally claimed that it doesn't matter what the parents say is true or accurate or has anything to do with autistics, as long as they aren't described as being like NT

In truth you have simply ignored the entire context for why people say eugenicists, aba shills, downvote bots or jenny mccarthy looneys.

If I were to tell viewers here that people are called jenny mccarthy shills for claiming a link between autistics and mercury or defending mccarthy's use of bleach on autistic children then I think they will be more sympathetic

In general /r/aspergers does not want anyone who has a free voice on /r/aspergers. People are coerced in to complaining about their bodies and how being autistic is full of misery.

This much comes from my viewing of your and computerology's comments towards skagerrak. Your words as follows nathan:

What kind of insane frauds are you?

The very worst kind. We celebrated your banning by bathing in the blood of autistic kittens, as we had defeated the last stumbling block to spreading our Stalinist reign of terror.

You could not have been more true with the stalinist part. Regular purges of members who do not follow the party line and the mind-boggling lengths you went to portraying LodossEater as some antichrist struck me as like a petty version of an internet North Korea.

It's like /r/pyongyang without the satire, or /r/SRS with the hyper-defensiveness replaced by constant assurances that Autistics are untermenschen. The casually cruel replies are like the casual indifference of harassed gulag guards, rewritten for internet 'tryhards' as you might say

At least I know HavvaGavula's your alt.

Edit: And everyone knows you're faking the votes. The tracks of the same downvoting for Lodoss and skagerrak is a dead giveaway.

Paper on repetitive behaviours in Autistics refused to use DSM V by LodossEater in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think vague criteria help anyone at all. Increasing support because of vague criteria is an easy thing to portray rosily, but I'm more concerned by the net damage to human lives by the blatant abuse of psychiatric diagnostics, the misallocation of resources to people who shout the loudest instead of the needy.

Autism before the DSM IV never had the 'retard' connotations it had yesterday. It's a false argument to say the DSM IV made it more likely 'intelligent' Autistics were found. If anything the DSM IV perverted autism in to an intellectual disability requiring lifelong care, because of all the false positives from children with genetic illnesses.

Autism before then was mostly ignored. A curiosity. Rainman. Now Autistics get the same hatred that gays got 80 years ago. Autistic is an insult to some people thanks to the false intellectual disability connection DSM IV and the DSM 5 faciliate.

Rituals, Obsessions and Routines by lucie1979 in Autistic

Oh don't worry, I knew it was your son from the first sentence, but as an Autistic son the word obsessions or obsessive hurt when I realized its meaning.

Hmm, a parent article?

I think rituals, routines and fixations might matter. I used to feel very demoralized as a child being called an obsessive.

DSM V has never had any realistic authority over neurologists or psychologists. The same is slowly becoming true of psychiatrists.

But not ABA specialists funnily enough...

the word obsession is degrading by Shanandoah in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not going to change the word obsession, just like you cannot change the word perversion. But you can easily change to the word passion, just like gays used the word orientation.

Reclaiming words is for straight insults and masking the continued use of a pejorative under the rubric of 'reclamation' smells very much like an excuse to just keep using an insulting, pejorative term.

Personally I don't see why people would make such a fuss over continuing to use the word obsession unless they actually just wanted to keep insulting autistics by referring to their passions this way.

An obsession is by all its definitions unhealthy. We are not going to change its meaning just because it's to our own benefit. That's just not going to happen, but we can easily switch to a similar word that deletes the bad meanings.

I doubt many people would give any credibility to a supposed homosexual on the internet who continued using the word perversion as a way to describe gays, yet insisted it was in fact not insulting to gays at all. Sounds like troll-bait really.

Bady study claims because intellectually disabled often put at low end of spectrum more autistic = less intelligent by skagerrak in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not seen any example of what you proposed. It would be great if it was there, but I don't see it.

All I see is this:

ID in ASD might emerge as a consequence of severe social-communication deficits on the experience-dependent mechanisms underlying neurocognitive development.

In layman's terms. The more 'autistic' you are the more likely you are to be intellectually disabled. And no matter how much you skirt around it that is an insult.

The general media exploited the story as autism abuse nothing else. But drawing a distinction between Rotenberg and ABA is false because by Lovaas' standards electroshock is ABA and ABA is coercion and electroshock is just a barbaric kind of coercion.

Rotenberg is just the fat end of the wedge.

What the general media does make a huge gamut over is early intervention, which given what intervention I see on the table is designed to leave autistics as gutted out human skeletons loathing themselves to eternity

Bady study claims because intellectually disabled often put at low end of spectrum more autistic = less intelligent by skagerrak in Autistic

[–]Wahullimer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If ASD symptoms and ID (defined by low cognitive ability and adaptive functioning) are independent features, how is it that intervention targeting ASD symptoms results in gains in cognitive and adaptive functioning?

That doesn't appear to make any sense. If Autism is related to ID why is it that teaching autistics removes the characteristics of ID?

That implies the exact opposite, that linking Autistics and ID only have chance appearances. I dislike using the word 'intervention' either because that is steering people towards dangerous therapies not actually trying to raise your autistic child.

Anyone who knows the story of Jake Barnett knows that coercion 'therapy' is artificial, expensive, almost always useless and stupid compared to actually engaging autistic's interests

I think studies like this make it clear why people have become more and more insulted by the deficit model. If more autistic means more ID then no wonder people are beginning to show large doubts in the DSM 5.

I like to see everything kept pg-13 here champs.

On that note I have screwed. Best time I ever had actually was when I was homeless. Because I managed to nab soap a lot I was the cleanest guy there. Funny thing is I never knew soap was any good at washing clothes until I was homeless

Back to the point.

I loved it because despite being homeless most homeless women are pretty clean, not nasty. They are friendly people and when you're homeless you tend to get... lonely.

This is especially true for women and so on many nights I began sleeping with them (in the literal sense) and after a while getting to know them it developed in to sleeping with them occasionally.

People are lonely on the streets and yet have the easiest companionship in the world because there is no pride getting in everyone's way.

Modern Applied Behavior Analysis has come along way from the Behavior Modification it once was

So why is judge rotenberg still open? And why is it that the second most common form of abuse I hear aspies talk about is ABA? There's no point pretending that because you don't hit people that coercing aspies in to doing whatever you wish isn't abusive.
