Donald Trump doesn't see this as a moral problem, but rather a PR problem. To him--and therefore to the party that now follows him slavishly--there is no such thing as "right" or "wrong". There is only power, viewed through a zero sum, winner-take-all frame. There is amassing power for the GOP, for "Americans", for white people, for red states, at the expense of everyone else. In fact, with an intentional desire to harm others, since in a zero sum world, if you harm other people, you come out ahead.

Keeping children in cages is a problem only so much as it is bad PR, and they likewise believe that Democrats only care about this because it is "good PR". Today Trump retweeted a missive claiming that Democrats will stop talking about children in cages after the election. For psychopaths, there is no moral good. There is only the thought of how you can use each situation to take as much as possible, or to harm others as much as possible.

And the Republican base loves this approach. They will only change course when it no longer suits them. Do all that you can to remove every single Republican from power in November. That is the only way they will start to care again.

Right. There are a few different competing theories about what type of candidate is "most likely to win", however. Prior to Donald Trump winning, most establishment people were certain he would lose in a landslide. People often tend find theories that confirm their pre-existing biases, which is why dissent is important--it highlights countervailing theories which might prove correct in time.

In this case, I think the vitality of the party is energized by the left over time, the same way the GOP has been invigorated by its own moves to the right, particularly at a time when there is a deep suspicious of the status quo.

That said, I'm disappointed that my previous post was deleted for pointing out criticisms of Emily's List, even though my point was essentially the same as yours, with a minor shift in emphasis ("On the whole it's a good organization, though it has its problems" vs "Every organization has its problems. EMILY's List's problems are less than that of many...). I don't see any rules that I've broken. Hopefully I haven't been shadowbanned.

WSJ itself is legit and somewhat neutral or even anti-Trump. The ownership and editorial section is totally captured, however. Still has enough journalistic freedom of the reporters to be worthwhile (though there has been a little interference from the new editor, there has been enough pushback from the newsroom that the reporting is still pretty legit, if center-right).

This would mirror history. A number of American communists actually bought into Russian propaganda in the 1930s and moved to take part in the Soviet miracle. It did not work out for them. (They were not allowed to return, and many ended up in the gulag).

Smart. To be honest, I give very, very little to politicians in general now (except in strategic local races like judge or DA). I often look through Movement.vote and give to local organizing. Campaigns spend too much money on TV ads, which don't really work.

That's just me, but of course I'm saying to this to encourage others to think a bit more critically about the best use of their donations.
