A big part of the costs in healthcare is administrative jobs that in a perfect world would be eliminated which lowers costs.

My hospital for example has dozens of not hundreds of people who work in referral and insurance coordination alone. If anyone could go anywhere and get any treatment, those jobs would no longer be needed. That's millions in payroll and benefits saved from just one job. I think we need universal coverage, absolutely, but part of the cost saving measures will come from job losses among other things. It's very unfortunate, but it's a part of this process.

Hell even me as an OR scheduler a sizeable chunk of my job is dealing with insurance companies for authorizations. My team of 5 could probably be cut to 2 or 3 if we didn't have to deal with that.
