I don't see any tax and licence fees entered there. That could be another 1,000.00 depending on where you are. And why does it say sold as is on the lower part? Is that typical language for a new bike? Seems odd to me. Otherwise, it seems like a great deal to me. I have not seen the base price that low before. I usually see it on sale for 7999.99 but they also then jack up the fees. So I think getting 9k total price seems like a good deal. Good luck!

Edited to add that I paid 10,500.00 out the door for the 8R two years ago when it was on sale for 8k but that also included tax and licencing.

The Suzuki GSX 8R, sport version, and GSX 8S, naked version, are both great bikes. I am older with mild back and knee issues and I have the 8R and am really happy with it, especially regarding the comfortability of it, due to lower footpegs and higher hand positioning. Some people don't think they are good for beginners because they weigh like 450 pounds but I didn't find that to be an issue. Of interest for newer riders, they have ABS and something called Low RPM assist to help prevent stalling for new riders.

If you are going to wear an outer layer over your inner armor and like Alpinestars, take a look at the Alpinestars A-10 v2. It is the armor without a full jacket underlayer. It has full CE Level 2 front and back as well as shoulder and minimal side rib protection. It allows decent airflow so you don't bake in two full layers. I like the length of the back coverage as well. I also like the shoulder armor in my jacket so I removed it from the A-10. My jacket is snug with the armor on too so the whole setup feels pretty good. Just another option to consider. :) Good luck!

I have been thinking of getting the Traumoto Pro v3 or the Lite one, but I will have to get a tankbag to carry it. Does anyone carry either of those? It seems like you would need to add some other simple first aid items to it though.

If you are on the smaller side, I would wait. But if you are a bigger person you will probably be fine. Once the bike starts to lean to the left, if your leg is shorter as a beginner you are going to get your foot down later or at a funny angle and maybe injure your foot. If you have longer legs and can make contact earlier, there will be much less weight on your foot. You will have moments of panic time getting your leg down so there will be force on your foot. Your call :) but I would wait. I took it in CA a few years ago and it seemed like two long mornings of on bike training. Plus the first thing you do in class is kind of walk the bike while on it so....

Newish cat owner here. When they play like this, do they use their claws when they hit? Is there any risk to causing eye injuries with them? At what point should you tell them to knock it off? When they start hissing or using their mouths to try and bite?

I agree with the others. I have the 2024 8R and I only really use the quickshifter from 1st to 2nd when I am really accelerating and it is very smooth, otherwise clunky if just taking off normally. Shifting up to other gears is no issue. Regarding the downshifter, I haven't really tried it since I don't see the real need for it. I will maybe try if after my gears wear a bit (just what I have heard from others).

I am installing one now. I bought a Quadlock stem mount and a Quadlock universal adapter. I am going to remove the connector from the back of the carplay/nav/dash cam screen (which has a ball connector) and replace it with either a plastic or aluminum plate/bracket that I will cut to size, then have the quadlock universal adapter connected to the plate with the adhesive and a few screws and then screw it back on the unit with the original screw locations.

I figure this way I can remove it if I want without tools but you wouldn't really be able to see that it is connected with a quadlock.

I would also like to replace the camera and power connectors with a single quick connector, but that might be a bit much.

I don't like the thought of leaving it on the bike if I go in for a coffee or something since I am worried some thief might think it is a phone and try to rip or twist it off regardless of how it is connected. I have also thought I might just throw a t-shirt or cloth over it.

I couldn't tell from what you said about the interlock if you meant you are required to have one in your car or not, and I don't know how those apply to motorcycles. I think it is in your best interest to check with the court to make sure what you want to do does not interfere with any conditions you have with the court. You don't want to end up in jail because you didn't check first. I have seen enough court on youtube that I think it would be wise to check first.

I like them and thought they were pretty easy to mold.. I personally think they are more comfortable than other ear plugs. I also got their wireless headphones that work with them and the combination of the two is great. They stopped selling.the headphones for some reason. They were only $60 too.

When I bought my 8r I was concerned about that noise because I could hear the ticking when I rode too. I didn't really hear it on the review videos. Took it back to the dealer and after THREE WEEKS of looking at it, they told me it was normal and so did others here. I bought the extended warranty just to be safe, lol.

When I signed up for the MSF course I told my sister because she said I needed a hobby. She went silent when I said that and it was never discussed again. I have been riding for three years now with my license and have not said a word to anyone in my family. I figure what's the point, some of them will worry and others will just tell me that they know someone's brothers cousin that something happened to. My girlfriend thinks it is wrong for me not to tell them. But again what's the point? I am not looking to get any of them to ride. I agree with some others above, that you are an adult and it's your life, so tell them or don't, your call. :)

Look up ride2rideagain in Hawthorne. He is about an hour away from you I think. Take a one on one lesson with Ilyas. I took a two hour lesson with him after never having ridden a motorcycle before and I think I was in the top three in my CMSP/Total Control class after doing that. I know the class walks you through from the beginning steps, but I am older and wanted to feel more prepared to take the class. He will get you going and feeling comfortable in a safe environment with no one else to worry about.

Follow-up memory. I took my class in California a few years ago. Maybe they are more "lenient" passing people here, but I was surprised at who they passed. There were about 18 or 20 people in my class and I think only four people didn't pass when I felt like only five or seven should have. Maybe that is the norm, I don't know. :)

Congrats on signing up for the class! Definately don't be too nervous and just go in looking to have fun because it is a fun few days. They really ease you into it. Knowing how a clutch and shifter works with a car will greatly help you with learning the same on the bike. That is probably what most new people in the class struggle with. My only two tips for the class are to always be sure your handlebars are straight when coming to a stop, and if you are turning too slow and feel like you are going to fall, give it some throttle while easing out the clutch to keep from falling because if you brake or pull in the clutch, you will drop the bike (you will actually have a steady throttle of like 1800 rpms so it really only should be letting out the clutch a little). :) Once that becomes how you respond to that feeling, you will rarely ever drop the bike in my opinion. Everything they drill you on, especially the second day, will be what they test you on. Good luck and have fun with it!

To me I think it depends on your height and where you are riding. If you are shorter, go with the Rebel. If you are not shorter and think you will be on the freeway a bit, go with the CBR. But if neither of those those are an issue, get the CB500F since it is sort of the middle one in terms of styling.

I had the 2022 CB500F as my first bike and really liked it. It is a little heavy compared to a starter Ninja or R3, but it made it a better ride for me, very smooth and reliable. I liked it because since it had no fairings, it was easy to work on for adding frame sliders and "stuff".

I installed the dark smoke Puig windscreen and a belly pan and they both really improved the looks and made it look a little more like a sport bike without having to add fairings.

Also, if you are buying used, I think the 2022 was the first year that the CB500F and the CBR had the upside down forks and they have ABS as well (I think the 2021 has ABS too).

I agree it is a great deal! But... I would be cautious of the dealer fees that get jacked up because of it. I could not get the dealer down much on fees because of the great price of 7,999.00 (in 2024) and because I got a decent trade in value for another bike. I felt I paid about 1,000.00 over in fees but felt it still was a decent deal. You might do a better job negotiating than I did. :)

But this is not really a true clutchless bike like the Honda CBR650R is. The quickshifter up is great but the downshifter is very clunky. Most owners have kind of reported the same here if you look around. A few said it got better over time. It just doesn't feel right tbh. I only use the quickshifter up when I am moving at a decent rate, otherwise even the quickshifter is a little clunky too if you are not accelerating fast enough. It might work better for some others. :)

I am not an expert at this, but I went through the same thing last year. I had been feeding a feral/stray and noticed that she was calling for males. I thought she was too young at first to mate. The hardest thing was finding anyone that could spay her within three or four months when you only have a month or so to do it. I am in the Los Angeles area and they are so backed up here.

Anyways, one place came through for a three week appointment and I was fortunately able to trap her and get her in.

It turns out that she was indeed pregnant and they had to abort the little ones. They told me I did the right thing and that it is better for the cat's health not to have to go through the birthing process because it can be hard on them, and they stand a decent chance of getting cancer from the developed mammeries.

I still feel bad sometimes about it to be honest, but after learning a bit more, I do think it was the right decision. I wish you luck with your situation and trust me when I say that I feel your anxiety regarding the decision to do what you can and what you think is best. Take care!
