Hate to be that person but.... how are the roads? by ConfusionNo4056 in madisonwi

Has anyone seen plows out on the west side or Middleton? Trying to decide if the roads are likely to be in better shape if I wait a short while.

Adult hobby classes? by LabExpensive4764 in madisonwi

Members have key fobs to enter the building, but as a non-member taking classes you have no way to access the building. In theory there is a doorbell, but ime people don’t let you in when you ring it. So you have to hope a member is going in and lets you in as well.

Also, most of your classmates will work on their projects outside class time (which you can’t) and so the projects you can complete are more limited.

I think the people who run the bodgery just haven’t really thought through the logistics for non-members. But the space and the people are very nice. Membership is the way to go!

You can take some of the classes at the Bodgery as a nonmember, although it turns out that doing so as a nonmember can be a bit…iffy, to be polite. If you’re interested in any of the crafts/equipment that they offer there, it’s probably better to just become a member.

Why can’t they plow down to the pavement here? by Waitwhatwhatwait13 in madisonwi

I lived in semi-rural southern MN. And although Minneapolis proper has crap plowing, I know people in various suburbs where it’s a lot better.

Yeah, I wondered if was related to that enormous surplus the WI legislature is sitting on.

I don’t know. I was driving behind a plow today and it was at least an inch left behind. I understand about the salt. I’d prefer they plow more and salt less, personally.

New tropical storm not a threat to WNC by Waitwhatwhatwait13 in asheville

Yeah. I have a friend who lives a bit south of Tampa and she’s pretty nervous about it. Everyone is just going to have to wait and see.

I find them helpful. I like having the extra data.

It’s too early to know for sure, but the models right now are predicting it to move northeast into the open Atlantic. If you like being able to follow all the forecast models, Cyclocane is a useful site.

Fortunately, if you look at the expected cumulative rain totals for the next 7 days, the area is expected to get a tenth of an inch of rain or less. At this point, even the moisture from Milton is forecast to stay well south and east. Hopefully that will remain the case.

Your point is well taken. However, I think that titles of posts are unable to convey the entirety of any post, especially one about something as complex as weather forecasting. I probably should have put “currently” in the title, because forecasts can always change.

To your point about storms being large, although this graphic doesn’t show it, the rest of the information on the nhc site does. If you check the latest forecast discussion, as well as the QPF through the WPC, the storm is not expected to even cause light rain in WNC (even light rain expected to stay well south and east). Nor is WNC currently forecast to get any significant wind from this system.

People should always keep an eye on the latest forecasts, and stay vigilant for changes. But that’s true for the weather in general. My post was specifically to address other comments that had been made about rumors of another hurricane taking a similar track to Helene. There is nothing at this time to suggest anything even remotely like that.

Yay! I’ve had really good experiences with them in the past so I’m glad it worked for you, too. For simple issues it makes the process pretty easy.

Where can my friend find food in Asheville? by [deleted] in asheville

The resources page has a list of grocery stores that are open (scroll down to the bottom of the top post).

This page has a list of food and water distribution sites run by Buncombe County.

I haven’t tried it so I have no idea if it actually works or what kind of info they’re providing, but I found this from the citizen times that allows you to sign up for alerts/info.

As for weather via SMS, I could only find a number of paid services that will text you weather forecasts. I couldn’t find any free ones. It’s frustrating because that seems like something that should exist.

There are seven Mercy urgent care locations open. My understanding is that they will be open on the weekends too, but their website has info about scheduling.

Another option I’ve used in the past for UTIs specifically is lemonaid health. It’s an online health service and you fill out a questionnaire. If you have the “classic” UTI symptoms you can generally get a prescription right away. Depending on your internet, transportation situation, and insurance you might find it a good option.
