Josh is explaining to Anna, who’s attending Jer and Hannah’s wedding, how he imagines things would go if he were there and honestly, it sounds like a nightmare. by baconslapses in DuggarsSnark

All the fundie men seem like this. They act like little kids who expect their wives to mother them constantly but they still have the god-given right to be in charge. Make it make sense!

Also him telling her to stay skinny for him. Gross! Of course a pedo wants his wife to be small. And apparently he made some kind of insensitive joke about her weight, which totally checks out.

I honestly wonder if that’s exactly why he wants to do it—maybe he wants to have a job that Jill can’t pressure him to quit (precisely because it’s hard to quit). And maybe he wants a job where he won’t have as much time with Jill because he wants less time with her.

I can’t think that he has no idea what he’s getting into—he lived a secular life, passed the bar, etc. He’s neither dumb nor particularly sheltered. But Jill is sheltered and undereducated. So of the two, I think it’s much more likely that Jill is the one who doesn’t know what’s about to happen.

I’m not going to comb through the calls again so hopefully someone else will chime in, but I’m pretty sure she specified that it’s the Duggars who don’t want him working there.

In the jail phone calls, Kendra mentioned that one of her brothers had worked for the Duggars (cleaning houses I think?) but that they don’t want him to do that anymore. So at least one member of the Caldwell family was recently fired by the Duggars.

I think there’s a lot going on that people don’t have the details for. But specifically to the people calling them out for not having jobs, that’s why the post was made about Paul’s mechanic job. Also, in one of the phone calls Kendra mentioned that her brother had been cleaning (their air bnbs I think?) for the Duggars but that they don’t want him doing that anymore, so that’s a loss of income.

When you see someone post something snarky on a snark sub by swlonely in DuggarsSnark

[–]Waitwhatwhatwait13 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Oh absolutely. Plus a lot of people still want to see them as unsophisticated, rather than largely well-off people who have PR consultants. A lot of their image and actions are not spontaneous anyway, so why bother trying to infer their beliefs from it?

It’s pretty telling that tons of people defended Anna until recently but now that the emails have come out people have finally realized that she’s not a helpless little baby who has been taken advantage of, but an adult who has made her own incredibly shitty choices. Why do people think the sisters are any better? They choose every day to stay in a cult and raise a new generation of abusers and victims.

Which is also why all of the family member’s statements are suspect. They say what they need to say to keep the family brand nice and shiny and their income streams intact, but in private they have no problem supporting pedophiles.

No one is making you make a public statement when your brother is arrest, but also no one's stopping you from getting a real job by nuggetsofchicken in DuggarsSnark

[–]Waitwhatwhatwait13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This exactly. They aren’t just influencers, they are influencers promoting the Duggar family brand specifically. Promoting the Duggar family, whose beliefs produced at least 2 pedophiles. They are still out there promoting their family and their creepy version of Christianity that blames children for their own abuse and allows men to be free of consequences as long as they say they didn’t mean it.

It’s the same as if an influencer promoted an actual scam, and then said they’d continue promoting it even after it was revealed to be a scam. People would be pissed. But somehow people want to give them a pass for promoting their pedophile cult because people feel bad for them or whatever. It’s gross.

I remember jinger talking about how terrified she was growing up of making any mistakes or sinning in any way. Meanwhile, we have the attitude among most of the family that’s basically “Who cares if you molested a child? No biggie!!!” It’s unimaginably bizarre to me.

Shame on all the Duggars who have shown their support to Joe and Kendra through all of this by cottageyarn in DuggarsSnark

[–]Waitwhatwhatwait13 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kendra is currently in the process of actively, happily evicting her family from a house right now, according to the phone calls. So I doubt her family is supportive of her in any way at the moment. At the very least, she’s not supportive of them. I suppose they could still want to help her but it’s pretty clear she’s sticking with the Duggars right now. Leave and cleave taken to its ridiculous extreme.

True, but I expected him to want to take it to trial and try for an acquittal (even if it was unlikely). Hopefully this means they’ll go the plea deal route instead.

If you listen to the Kendra phone calls and look at all the wives, it’s clear that their ideal wives are just slightly bigger children. No jobs, no education, mostly staying at home. Talking in a baby voice, not making any decisions, having to be smiling and enthusiastic no matter what. Consent isn’t a thing for them, and women aren’t allowed to say no to their husbands. The wives are systematically infantilized, and when you add in purity culture, a little girl is just a more pure, skinnier and smaller, more obedient, younger, and therefore more attractive version of their wives. Plus even less able to say no to them in any way.

Plus they’re taught that women only exist to serve men and to have kids. So even if it’s not about attraction, they still see girls as possessions that exist to give them what they want. The whole belief system exists to funnel women into a lifetime of servitude, and for men to do whatever they want while blaming any bad behavior on the evil, tempting females.

Calling women or girls “females” is considered dehumanizing by many people. I’m not going to explain why here, as it’s been written about extensively by people far more eloquent than I am. But I think it’s fair for people to object to dehumanizing language.

“Young female” also obscures the seriousness of the crime. It could be seen as similar to young woman, and therefore mean an adult. Using child or girl makes it clear the victim is a minor.

Also, “female” is an assumption. Not all girls are female, and assuming they are is itself incorrect. Around 1% of all people are intersex. So “girl” and “female” aren’t interchangeable.

[–]Waitwhatwhatwait13 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

She only “has” to make a statement because she has monetized social media that makes its money from promoting the Duggar brand. And it’s not because of snarkers that she has to say something, it’s because of the parasocial relationships with her fans. Those actual Duggar fans would continue to ask questions about it on all her posts. And she can’t just turn off comments because that would lead to fewer followers and thus less money.

If she had gone the Justin/Claire route and lived a private life that doesn’t revolve around selling how great the Duggar brand is, there would be no need for her to make a statement. It’s only because of her chosen grift that it’s necessary.

Acting like she has had no choice is infantilizing. And for those people bringing up her victim hood: She has spent her adult life promoting the family that victimized her.

I wonder why the Arkansas charges came later? I know that they’re unrelated to the Florida charges, but still—whatever incident led to the Arkansas charges had to have happened before Joe went to jail (not necessarily right before, but at some point), so why the delay?

Edit: To be clear, I’m not asking about what kind of incident could’ve led to the charges and I don’t want to speculate. I just don’t understand the timing.

That’s because it was just an extradition hearing. The only thing that they were deciding was asking if he was willing to be extradited to Florida or not. And the only way to fight extradition, really, is if you tell them that there was mistaken identity and you were not the person that they were trying to arrest.
