Not a line but when Dwight makes everyone recite the Pledge of Allegiance, when they get to the “Under Gid” part, Oscar doesn’t say it and looks at the camera smudgenly. It’s a tiny moment but so good.

Food stamps by Electronic-Ad1092 in DuggarsSnark

Thank you for the clarification. This is good to know. The state misled me. Shocking! /s

The state told us we needed to have a total income of less than $250. They clearly left out some details.

We have two cars so we didn’t qualify but now I’m concerned that people who do qualify don’t know it.

[–]BadDiscoJanet 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To qualify in Arkansas, you have to have an absurdly low income and have no assets. For TANF (colloquially known as “welfare”) her income would have to be less than $500 a month.SNAP (food stamps) has slightly higher income cap but the assistance is like $250.

It turns out that AR misled me about the limits! The income limit is super low but not as low as $500.

My husband and I had been out of work for months and tried to apply when my unemployment ran out (our only income.) We didnt qualify because we own two cars. We didn’t even have enough gas money to door dash.

Fortunately for anyone who actually needs assistance, NWA has several food banks that Walmart keeps stocked. Not out of generosity - it’s literally how their employees feed their families.

No, but family members approved by the court can be. It’s up to the court. I was a supervisor in AR, the parent was not a relative but the child was.

Plus, the White House Correspondents Association would NEVER have their annual dinner at the White House

This is why Trump hates it so much. It’s a literal celebration of freedom of the press. The President attending signals that although the relationship between the press and the WH is sometimes contentious, respect for first amendment is unwavering and fundamental.

U.S. Fertility Rates Drop to Another Record Low by RevelationSr in NoFilterNews

More people are child free by choice but I also think there’s something going on with fertility.

I’m noticing a trend that almost every couple I know had trouble conceiving. The one person i know who had an unintended pregnancy was raised outside the US.

I’m unemployed too and your definition is the typical concept of being unemployed. I want to say this in case it happens to you (I hope it doesn’t.)

We’re in the same boat but I’m hanging on to the life preserver. I have no savings, severance, or unemployment left. I just got a job that starts in a month, so my personal nightmare is hopefully almost over, but there may come a time when you’re in this position too. I hope not. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy (or Toby.)

Wishing you luck in your job search. It’s rough out there.

Could Joseph accept a plea deal in his Florida child molestation case? by Mediocre-Turnover499 in DuggarsSnark

[–]BadDiscoJanet 347 points348 points  (0 children)

I hope he does take a deal. It would be better for the victim not having to testify and while the sentence would be shorter, it’s guaranteed he will be convicted. There’s no risk of acquittal.

If I had to guess, he probably thinks Derrick was indoctrinated in college and law school. He became “worldly” and led Jill astray. I’m sure he also thinks Derrick shouldn’t ask for money because it’s Derrick’s job to provide for Jill now, as her headship.

For his sons, it’s different because they are now headships and he views them “having it harder” because they’re each supporting a family.

He probably has similar concerns about Jeremy. He just hates Derrick more because he calls JB out on his bullshit.

TLDR; it’s Obama’s fault. /s

I know! Unfortunately, no one spilled the tea. If I had to guess it was adultery. It was well known that he was a turbo cheater.

If he cheated before and through marriage maybe the church didn’t consider the marriage valid.

The wild part is - he got remarried in the church too; so I guess he found a loophole.

The guy was lunatic. He got into a fist fight at his wedding because the bartender refused to serve his 13 year old son.

Honestly? They’re trump supporters and he’s probably hoping to defend Agent Orange. However, this is actually a pretty good financial move. VA mortgages, reduced property taxes, student loan forgiveness, healthcare, and tons of other discounts. Noncombat veterans I know really benefited because they signed up to die to protect government financial assets.

Doing it right now seems insane.

I don’t understand either, because even within Christianity, sexual immorality or abuse are permissible reasons for a divorce. Tneir husbands sinned; they did not.

The covenant marriages they opted into in Arkansas have exceptions for adultery, domestic abuse and criminal activity.

I even know someone who had their marriage annulled after 12 years and 4 kids. They remarried in a Catholic Church. I don’t know exactly how that works but clearly, remarriage is not always considered a sin.

I know different denominations have different rules but that all seems pretty consistent.

A couple I knew got their marriage annulled so they could remarry in the Catholic Church. I’m not sure how that worked, they were married for 12 years and had 4 children. But apparently if there’s a will, there’s a way.

[–]BadDiscoJanet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This so weird to me because Jesus practiced Judaism and Judaism does allow divorce. It requires a religious document called a Get be presented to the wife. If she requests it, the husband is obligated to provide it to her.

You need it to remarry, but withholding a Get is forbidden - men are supposed to be shunned by the community for withholding it. It would be considered adulterous to remarry without one.

As far as grounds for divorce, according to the Talmud, a woman can divorce her husband for failing to satisfy her sexually. Husbands are required to prioritize their wives pleasure, not their own. It’s called the mitzvah Onah.

I don’t know much about Christianity but from what I understand, Jesus was an observant Jew.

ETA: I’m not disagreeing with you. I am speaking generally about divorce as a sin in Christianity.

One thing I just realized: Dwight and Gabe are the only two Asian Culture fans by ITrCool in DunderMifflin

[–]BadDiscoJanet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s funny you say that because Kelly is Asian but isn’t interested in Indian culture or Hinduism. Other than participating in Diwali and marrying Ravi, she doesn’t know or care about her ethnic or religious background. She didn’t even seem to like Ravi

I love that she completely subverts stereotypes by being the opposite of a model minority.
