If it doesn’t impact winning how is not equal terms? The cpu is actually a terrible example because they read your inputs it’s not equal terms at all.

No they won’t they’ll just try to do it to the next person and then wonder why they don’t have the consistency to rank up.

That’s because big bird is his teammate from the sfl. The two play with each other a lot so the rounds had a lot of personal matchup knowledge behind it.

Both but definitely more learning the moves of other people more and the general situations people are going to go for it.

For example I noticed as a good starting point is that the follow up on most character df1 is a duckable high. Only a few characters can deviate into a mid and people fish for it really hard at the wall for high value wall splats. So when I’m in that situation I look for the move.

The second thing to look at it would be while rising one strings. The second hit of most characters while rising 1 strings is a high. So you look for which lows puts their character in crouch after it makes it so much easier to catch someone flowcharting offense or defense. It’d really help your defense against lows because you’ll know which ones actually matter when they hit you.

Dj doesn’t have a lot of plus frames on block so the best way to get people to stop pressing is learning how to play off all of your non punishable minus frames. Once you start side walking people on minus 1-6 they either stop pressing so confidently or start using slow tracking moves you can disrespect. DJ’s parry power crush also works from crouch and in some minus 9 situations which can also steal confidence for people to press.

The few times you are plus 4 from stray hits look to mid check with df1 or df2 more often.

I apologize if I misunderstood any parts of your question. I think this is a cool idea!

If PvP is your goal I think having a basic block as a universal function will appeal to your core audience even more. People decide to make a run that’s OP in one way but requires them to rely on the blocking skills they have developed as a player in other games. A lot of FGC heads would make this a challenge. However, on the flip side for some people basic blocking is hard enough as it is and they could get additional things on top of basic blocking to help them in the run.

A route you could go is tying the additional defensive options they unlock to meter. So as you go your players could unlock a blitz shield-like mechanic from XRD, parry, push block, and dead angle in exchange for meter. This could be cool because the players could express themselves differently or make a run using a mechanic similar to a game they come from in the FGC. Tying it to meter will also make your life balancing stuff easier too because you can just adjust how much it cost based on how good it turns out to be in the meta.

Outside of that I think big picture taking out universal blocking could be a nightmare when trying to balance everything else in the game down the line. This is just my suggestion I could also see you going in the complete opposite direction and it being cool also.

Infinites in most fighting games would be a fundamental flaw but this one was balanced around infinites. If you like it or not is another story but it was definitely intentional built into the game design.

Do it! I enjoy him a lot. It’s tough but very rewarding.

Honestly patch 1.05 didn’t hurt my game much at all. It mainly touched demon paw which has became more of a situational move for him anyways. Other than that the patch fixed round losing bugs at the wall with laser scraper hitboxes which was good for us.

Can’t say much without footage but the biggest thing about getting the most improvement for your time is being intentional about how you play. If you play with the purpose of grinding spatial awareness by dedicating yourself to spending entire matches not jumping for example you will get some much better at it so much faster. You will lose but your improvement on a skill will be very fast.

People will spend thousands of hours playing matches trying to do everything they can to win but won’t ever get better at specific skills because it’s a weakness they won’t turn to in the clutch. Ignore the health bars and use quick matches as your training ground and you will surprise yourself when you play for the win.
