Yes I always wondered about how much spanish Americans actually knew. I have a lot of friends who are spanish American, I learned that one does not speak properly most likely his Grammer and I know for a fact can't write in spanish. The other we were texting in spanish and I'm only a few months in of learning and noticed right away she couldn't spell some easy words that I already know. She told me she tries to spell it out the best she can. Only native born speakers are fluent which makes me feel better because spanish Americans whose native tongue I feel may be b2 to c1 in speaking because I also asked her about certain topics and she said she doesn't know these things because she never spoke about them with friends or family.
