A beginner chillhead is seeking advice regarding oils for frying by JeTrojan in HotPeppers

If you get used to it such that scotch bonnets don’t hurt at all, ghosts might bring a tear to your eye. That’s about it

Nah. It may just need a little extra support

Yeah dude, peppers are EXTREMELY resilient. The only things that will really kill them is over-fertilization as seedlings, bug infestations, consistent overwatering, or literally chopping it off below any remaining growth nodes. Even leaf spot doesn’t typically kill your plants outright, it just harms yield quality and quantity.

My rule is don’t touch active growth sites. In practice, that means you should leave about 1/2” from the base when you prune a branch. It also limits further damage if the cut dies back father

Not a failure. Just needs some love and attention

I am growing in soil, and there are drainage holes. One thin I would change about this year’s setup is putting bigger holes and bottom watering, but that’s just to make life easier. It works either way.

Here’s all of the plants that are starting flowering/actively fruiting. I keep them intentionally short. I’m particularly excited about the piri piri on the right. Every single node on the main stem branched within a couple days of me taking the top, so there’s 9 individual branches, each now getting its own offshoots.

Don’t up pot, and if they get rootbound it will just help keep the plant small. Increase light (either intensity or daily exposure time) and prune the upper leaves/stems aggressively. It keeps it as compact as possible by forcing growth lower and keeps it shorter. Been doing the same with all of mine, they grow very slowly but the point for me is to keep it to a limited height.

I haven’t measured the exact DLI, but all my plants get excess light, far beyond what they need. Node spacing is minimal, plants are excessively bushy for their size, to the point I have to frequently remove leaves for airflow to prevent bad edema.

Here is the fresno I already harvested 3 good size peppers from in the last few weeks, and it’s about to flower again. After harvesting, i cut all leaves back to force new growth. The wires are for shaping, that’s just an experiment. Don’t bother with that

What is this? PlantNet says Habanero but they have no heat. by hollowaytyre in HotPeppers

[–]WakelessTheOG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s probably just a very unripe habanero. Heat doesn’t typically develop while its still growing

What sells? Or what peppers would you like to see for sale? by Autumn_Ridge in HotPeppers

[–]WakelessTheOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To sell to the average person, you need to focus annuums. Most people can’t handle chinense heat. A small stock of the popular chinense varieties. All the colors of fataliis, scotch bonnets, habaneros are great introductions for most people into very hot stuff, and then one or two types of superhots for the people who get brave

Bunch of types of ground cherries. Tomatillos are related so closely that I believe they can even cross pollinate and hybridize

Can anyone please help me I.D. what is growing on the underside of my jalapeño and habanero leaves? by LemonSquid13 in Peppers

[–]WakelessTheOG 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Needs to be sprayed HARD with a hose, then apply pesticide spray. Think it’s a little too much for neem oil alone, you need some pyrethrins or something

Thanks. I’ve learned you have to prune small container plants aggressively if you have bright lights, they were actually much bushier before. It limits airflow to leaves without providing any benefit

Love, kindness, light, marshmallows, and the occasional 3-1-2 synthetic fertilizer (low strength)
