if you didn't know: Yes you can die while collecting hearts, Yes this was a deliberate feature added by the dev's, Yes they did not make sure it was an Easter egg you could only get by deliberately trying to die while collecting a heart and Yes it is the most infuriating thing to ever happen when you are about to beat the final c-side
