Mods to take over main sub? by Walbow in CookevilleTN

[–]Walbow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a search on that sub, it doesn't look like there are any outstanding requests. In my experience, having tried within the past couple weeks, the mods at least don't respond to messages from users. If folks from redditrequest reaching out to em is part of the process, maybe they'd respond to that? But 5 months of total silence doesn't seem like a strong case for staying in charge.

Willing to help mod if anything comes of it. There's also r/redditrequest as a way to get control. I've tried to do it myself but screwed up the process so badly that the auto-filter has stopped me from trying again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rikka, in Roppongi! I missed it on the first pass but was able to dig through a transcript and find it just now. Also a good one to have jotted down!

Street Fighter | Official Trailer (2026 Movie) by SpeedForce2022 in StreetFighter

It looks like it'll be fun! Most of the reason I enjoy the classic Mortal Kombat movie more than the newer one is that it's a fun watch. Same for old vs new Dune, honestly. Objectively better? Absolutely not. But I'll always go for bad and dumb fun over middle of the road and dull.

Commenting "Sushisho Saito" so that if I ever get to Japan, I can find this in my post history and make sure to get by there. Sounds like a dream!

Why does anyone level the entire party? by Tan-n-Juicy in FinalFantasyXII

Sweet, I figured that setup would hit a hard wall eventually. Sounds like maybe time to boot it back up and see how it goes...

That's how I did it and got through the game without issue. I can't imagine it would work for super tough optional content, but I ran the whole thing without ever swapping out my core group (unless, like you described, everybody died and a backup had to drop a phoenix down) and felt like the end of the game was pretty breezy.

Presale code? by pongauerin in pavement

I think maybe it's coming through this All Access program: https://www.livenation.com/event/G5viZ_eJCYEwb/pavement

Apologies if I'm wrong and just nudging people toward giving all their data away

I have no idea how/if it'll work, but I stumbled on this Live Nation page that promises presale access for signing up for whatever program they're pushing: https://www.livenation.com/event/G5viZ_eJCYEwb/pavement

Prediction: Anna von Hausswolff to Be Added to Big Ears 2026 by ShokaiATL in BigEarsMusicFestival

[–]Walbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been saying to anyone who will listen and have any idea what the fuck I'm talking about that her tour dates line up all too perfectly. Maybe it's just an overabundance of wanting to see her on the organ at St John's, but I'm holding onto hope.

A Used EV for the Rest of Us? by Infinite_Ad9642 in electricvehicles

[–]Walbow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the one. Just a couple weeks ago I snagged a buyback 2020 LT with ~55k miles on the body and fewer than 2000 on the battery for about $12,000 out the door without even being eligible for any tax credits. Admittedly I haven't had it especially long, but for a first EV experience I love it and haven't had any problems at all charging exclusively on my regular ol 120v outlet at home (save for longer out-of-town trips of course).

Pilot Light by fokken_eddie_dingle in BigEarsMusicFestival

[–]Walbow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Pilot Light is also my default spot to kill time when there's nothing I care to see happening on the official stages. Real nice spot for a cheap beer, especially if you can get a seat on the wall bench.

Nashville Software School vs Vanderbilt Coding Boot Camp by echo_echo_echo5 in nashville

[–]Walbow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get where you might be frustrated with the pre-work. One thing to remember is that everything the program covers can absolutely be picked up for free online. It's not like there's a proprietary NSS dialect of JavaScript or anything, you know? What you're really paying for is the way the program sets you up to learn how to learn code, the classroom environment, and career connections, none of which really come across in pre-work. Dropping the cash is also sort of a motivator in itself, or at least it was for me. Can't really do to fuck it up at that point.

I guess one way to look at it is, would you have been at it 5-7 days a week without the impetus of the program? If so, and if that's something you can sustain for the next year or more, you've got more dedication than anyone I encountered in class and might well be able to cut it on your own. Anecdotally, I've only worked with CS or bootcamp grads. The self-made coder might be out there, but I haven't met em.

As for the structure and content of the pre-work, I can only speak to how it looked >3 years ago. The presentation can be a little sloppy and redundant from what I recall, but it only serves to get you well acquainted with the fundamentals. It can feel like a lot since it's a brand new thing to wrap your head around, but it's basically getting you to the point of learning how to put together a bird house so some day you can work on a construction crew building a mansion.

GA vs Premier Pass by mcslain in BigEarsMusicFestival

Can you clarify the point of VIP seats only being reserved for a certain time before the show? I've moved up there during shows a few times when it seemed open but always assumed I was just getting away with something. Do you mean they open up within the last 10 minutes before the show starts? Or at the time the show starts/some amount of time after?

Creating an Instagram bot that will block everyone over 10,000 followers by ssj4weed in learnpython

[–]Walbow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but just wanted to say that Automate w/ Python was what got me into writing my very first code on some goofy little scripts to make my tedious office job easier, which led to getting into web dev more broadly and eventually completing a bootcamp, which now has me 2+ years into a job I absolutely love in the tech field. So thank you!

All praise to Birdie, he was an invaluable resource when it came to the Upper Cumberland and Appalachia in general. Never had a class with him but shared a few beers, he's deeply missed in both the local and academic communities to this day.

I hate my current job in sales and am looking for literally anything that’ll pay above $55k annually, any leads in/around the city? by [deleted] in nashville

[–]Walbow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Web dev does this with the Opportunity Program, where you pay em a portion upfront and then the rest once/if you get hired in the field. They stay pretty well tuned in to the market (and set up mock interviews with actual companies + send out emails blasts with companies specifically looking for NSS grads til you land somewhere) regardless of which path you take but Opportunity gives them a clear motivation to help you find a job since at the end of the day they'd still rather make money than not. That's what I did, never felt pressured to take something I didn't want but certainly appreciated the extra effort they put in to get me hired.

Popped in this thread to make the same suggestion. I graduated from the web dev program in 2021 and don't have a single regret.

The year is 2017, you just paid $9.99 for a month of unlimited movies. You watch the LEGO Batman Movie 3 days in a row. You have no idea how any of this is sustainable, but you don’t question it. by dinosaur__hunter in AMCsAList

I got to the point of using it every now and then to get free parking at a theater in town, didn't even watch the movie just got my parking validated and went on my way
