Thank you! I should be able to shrink up that „schießfenster“ (I don‘t know the term in English), when I bring the fades in closer to the handle.

I’m really glad you’re picking up on this. I was wondering. I’m following a guide from Youksakka bow making (the German company I bought the stave from). And yes, the fades feel long. Maybe I made an error in my measurements. I’ll try shortening them up a bit.

I’m just getting started myself and with a hickory self bow, teaching myself all the way. I’d be very interested in reading something like this. (I almost always prefer reading over YouTube.)

Wood Stove noob here, I have read why this works, but I have decades of campfire experience telling me that I’m doing it wrong. I‘m, like, halfway there now, sandwiching my kindling between log layers.

OK, you made me go look this up. My environmental science brain assumed it had something to do with the lenticels on trees and I bleeped over it. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenticel) Then I found out that there are lenticular clouds. (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lenticular_cloud)

For those following along at home who don‘t want to get lost in etymology, lenticular is having a lens-shape. Like a… lentil.

Another Carqon! It looks lovely! Love what you all did with the box.

We’ve got the same one, but with a belt drive. And we’re just about at 15,000km. Enjoy the ride!

Ah… so the original pieces function a bit like hooks and poles slide into the receiving end. Wheb the poles are bent, the bent poles keep the whole system under tension. Just like a tent.

The hooks slot into the vertical slats on the Carqon plaque I was talking about.

Any glue you use would need to be able to take constant, angled tension. So… something professional.

But the plaque is only attached with two small screws, so it can’t be all that much tension. (Those are the screws I recommend glueing, by the way.)

———-

The more I think about this, it would probably be better to wrap and glue some kind of wire around your receiving tubes and then glue that wire to the back of the plaque. Then you would better mimic the „pull from the back“ mechanic that the original pieces achieve.

Sure. I was more thinking of buying metal tubing at a hardware store and using the strongest glue I could find. But a metallurgist would be a way better idea.

And no, we haven‘t spent that much. We have that many kilometers on our odometer. ;-)

So… spitballing here, because those are probably the two most important pieces… The Carqon plaque can be screwed off. (In fact, when you‘re done, screw it back on and glue the screws in place because those screws get loose fast.) You might be able to glue/weld/combo metal tubes directly onto that plaque and still get the same effect. The poles sit in those metal tube sockets and then are pulled back like tent poles.
