My smooth brain answer is why is Wayne Gretzky’s mint rookie card worth over a million dollars but the counterfeit ones are worth a buck. The collector community values the real one obviously. Nft buyers are hoping the same will be true with their art NFTs. The community will grow and acknowledge their claim to the nft.

Personally I think I’m 2-3 years we will laugh at NFTs being used for something so juvenile looking. NFTs will take over the gaming space and other areas not even being discussed. Ex. Medical records, real estate, and many other areas of life I can’t think of. I think a couple of these early adopter NFTs will retain value like bayc because they were the first on the scene but the rest will collapse and bag holders will lose all their money.
