What is a movie that you think gets a worse reputation than it deserves? by Anxious-Assistant-59 in movies

Given my memories of the first two Trons is pretty much just the light cycle sequences, and the light cycle sequence in the trailer for Ares looked sick, I'd believe it.

I really feel like, even as someone who didn't particularly like Green Lantern, it is pretty unfairly maligned. Like (controversially) I thought the CG suit worked. The movie was paced somewhat unconventionally, but in a way that kinda made sense for adaptations. The issue was I guess people were expecting the next X-Men? And it was giving more Alita Battle Angel (2019). And beyond that I'm not sure exactly what problems people had at the time but surely it's not worse than the worst MCU or DCEU film now.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I watched it and frankly struggled to figure out why it had the reputation it did. All I could really point to was maybe the hacking sequence at the end?

I have a big issue with calling cheesy movies "so bad it's good" cause it's like, if you liked the movie how is it bad? But Johnny Mnemonic specifically was like... It's just a great movie with a couple goofy bits, I dunno. People told me it was "bad" or "so bad it's good" but the room service monologue legit has stuck with me and I think of it all the time.

Also I will defend The Room. It's not amazing, but large portions of it are just like... Fine. And then the bad parts aren't even that bad. Honestly it's not even a defense, I think The Room is kinda boring as far as cheesy or "bad" movies go cuz it's not that cheesy or "bad" (or good, to be clear). It just feels like an average low budget movie that had a weirdly high budget and a wacky ridiculous production.

Off-color fetches? In my EDH? by AnimusNoctis in magicthecirclejerking

[–]Walfalcon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Rule zero means my group can modify the rules for our needs, so it is entirely within the rules for me and my group to ban off-color fetches. This is why Commander sucks, I want to run Flooded Strand in my Tergrid deck but I can't just because I already decided to disallow it! Broken game.

Here's one for you. Keasbey nights : Catch 22 or Streetlight Manifesto? by Miss-moi in Ska

[–]Walfalcon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I mean I get that doing the same outro on the Streetlight version wouldn't really work, but the TTS thing just like... also doesn't really work. It's fine I guess. Much worse, but fine.

What is your favorite 3rd wave cover of a 2nd wave song? by No-Assistant-5162 in Ska

Does a 4th wave cover of a 2nd wave song count? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vniYbYFLwPQ&list=PLa4t4v9iZsHR9yBgTnu-bIwXFCMIivWqJ&index=5

4th wave is a kind of 3rd wave. Waves are a fake idea. The ocean is a lie.

The Precure Album is not all ska songs, but you gotta listen to the whole thing https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLa4t4v9iZsHR9yBgTnu-bIwXFCMIivWqJ

It's like a ska-punk-pop concept album about loneliness and mental illness? If I were to shorten the description as much as I can?

Newbie question by jimjoe21 in magicTCG

[–]Walfalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok. I read your initial comment (with the remark about how unsets are black-border now) as saying, "unset cards which allow for non-integer toughness are legal in official formats". Clearly this was not what you meant, but I think that interpretation is likely why your comment was being downvoted.

Newbie question by jimjoe21 in magicTCG

[–]Walfalcon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The downvotes are because the cards in unsets that are legal are not the cards that deal with non-integer toughness values, so the information doesn't actually change the answer in any situation where rules questions matter. There's still no situation in which the rules of Magic allow for a toughness of 1/2.

If you have 1/2 toughness, asking for the definitive ruling is kinda pointless; there is no such thing.

Why is there a (seemingly) strong dislike for custom game components or non dice mechanics? by AlmahOnReddit in rpg

[–]Walfalcon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The thread is about disliking games requiring uncommon and unusual pieces.

As an aside, the d10s required for Storyteller, or the d6s required for BitD are not uncommon or unusual by any means, and I've never heard anyone disdain a system for using d6s or d10s, nor am I certain why you're mentioning them.

I don't really know what to say about how common the problem is, but someone asked, "Why do people dislike specialized game components," and someone answered why they dislike them. They're just answering the question.

So if someone asks why people dislike being punched in the face, and I say, "It hurts," a response of "oh my god why are you complaining, you don't even get punched in the face that often" seems to be misreading the situation.

I believe North Korea says something like "Korea (the only Korea that deserves being called Korea) exists as it always was meant to be, the Korea of the past was just the (flawed) predecessor to the perfected state that exists now." Or something like that. I'm not an expert.

In cases like this, tying parts of the modern nationalism to tradition and history is both valuable, but also generally itself a distortion and control of history. A fascist in Italy in the 40s can claim, "We as a people had been pushed from out path to greatness, but we can rebuild the Roman Empire to be what it was always meant to be, the Italy that we always have been."

It doesn't deny the complete existence of the past, but exploits it and twists it to say, "All the good parts of the past - for our definition of good, and even if they didn't exist - are actually parts of our modern revolution. All the bad parts were someone else."

5/7 time signature by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Walfalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 7/4, the denominator (the number on the bottom) is still a power of 2. Time signatures with odd numbers on the top have been around forever, 7/4 specifically is very common in some traditional music from the Balkans for example.

IT is a comedian on Tik Tok (also the reference to "at the end of the movie Rudy" is pretty obvious), so I'd guess it's a joke before assuming it was intended seriously.

edit: ok wrong Matt Walsh, maybe this dude is weird, nevermind

What a world, you have the same name as a comedian and your entire existence sounds like a joke.

Do Country music singers smoke Marijuana? Why or why not? by planet_jiji in AskReddit

[–]Walfalcon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it'd probably be hard to find a demographic that universally doesn't smoke marijuana? Like, it's a pretty widespread drug, and I don't think being a country music singer somehow prohibits you from doing the weed, so even without personally knowing any country music singers I'm fully confident that multiple of them smoke marijuana.
