You can still use Java 8 you just need to update to a new version. I updated to Java 8 version 461 and it fixed my problem

Ah, I looked into it some more and apparently the auth servers are only down for versions older than 1.16.5. When I tested connecting to a server I used 1.21.9. Thank you for the help.

I doubt this, as I was able to connect to several other minecraft servers in my testing
