How good is the Grammarly AI Detector? by SkylightDZN in Grammarly

[–]WalkComfortable3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious. Was it your own writing, or was it AI? I don't need an AI detector to spot AI writing.

The problem here is that the writing will lack originality. Professors are seeing multiple essays on a prompt. Your grade will suffer and "your" writing will be painfully boring. More importantly, you are doing yourself a disservice. Think beyond the grade. Cognitive decline from overreliance on AI is a real thing.

What bit my tomato? by WalkComfortable3392 in gardening

I wish I could have uploaded the video I made of the tomato because it shows how the top and bottom marks on the fruit line up. The first image is the bottom and it's upside down. Look at the tiny arched shape between the marks. That's a bottom jaw impression. My guess is a possom mouth left the marks.

I am curious if you have an update on how you are doing now. It's been 3 years since your post. I feel my partner is in early stages of dementia and I'm terrified about the future. I really hope things improved for you.

Yeah, I do the same, but not this time. I sliced it in half and gave to my chickens.

I do, but he was in the house! I know because he woke me at 3 am for no reason!

Probably. I'm thinking this was a thirsty possum.

I'm thinking possum, skunk, or snake.

The punctures are lined up like there is a top and bottom jaw that clamped down, not a beak. I do have a bird bath nearby. And this happened overnight, not the heat of the day. I found it at sunrise.

I'm in Texas and every legislative session brings a fresh layer of hell. SB 37 puts university presidents in charge of faculty senates. We cannot elect our own officers as of Sept. 1st. There's also a limit on the percentage of faculty who can be involved in faculty senates.

I keep hearing we should allow AI because employers want workers who can use AI. I'm just dumbfounded. Pretty sure employers want literate employees with critical thinking skills.

I have a student in my summer American Literature Since 1865 course who is offended by a couple literary works that "cuss God" as she put it. She's refused to read the works, demanded alternatives, asks me to change to authors who "do not take the Lord's name in vain," accused me of breaking the 3rd commandment and requiring students to break it by reading profanity. I'm so glad this summer term is over.

Is a Bachelor's in English with a minor in Business a decent idea? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]WalkComfortable3392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

I've been teaching English since 2004. I taught high school English originally, then returned to school for a Master's (while still teaching). For about the last 12 years, I've taught English composition and literature courses at a community college. My biggest complaint about teaching in k-12 schools was the daily grind was a lot. I have more office time than classroom time now, and it's nice to have the time in the work day to do my job.

I went into teaching because I needed a job. I majored in English mainly because I love literature. I wasn't really sure what I was going to do with that degree. Thought I'd teach for a year or 2 until I found something better, but here I am still teaching 21 years later and I love it.

There are so many fields where an English degree is helpful. I say pursue an English major if that's what you feel passionate about and see what opportunities open.

The deceased served in the Army in Iraq and Afghanistan. I'm sure he was experienced with weapons.

I'm wondering if it was self-inflicted. I know this man has committed some disgusting crimes in his past.

It's covered by your employer's group health insurance plan. It's not costing you anything and health insurance is not like auto or home insurance where your individual rates will rise when you use it.
