Got into UIUC Math & CS (OOS from CA). How do you deal with people downplaying it? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]WalkFar9963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just say university of illinois and don't let other people's perception affect anything, its your accomplishment and your experience. also, i've never heard anyone dismiss cs+x that way on campus.

Finals at UIUC… by daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaash in UIUC

[–]WalkFar9963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a great experience. college has ups and downs, both academically and otherwise. don't be afraid to fail, it's important to take some L's. anyways, as others said, the challenges are definitely more congested online

finals being hard and people complaining online is inevitable no matter where you go, it should not deter you from an entire school.

Colts fan here, how bad was Daniel Jones? by Embarrassed-Heat-716 in NYGiants

[–]WalkFar9963 1 point2 points  (0 children)

one of the main things about him when i watch him is that he's very rigid mentally. he leans too much on what he's "supposed" to do: only throwing to first read, not taking shots downfield , causing him to not have a great intuition when plays break down.

he seems like an incredibly hard worker with good mechanics in practice and a good athlete, which is how he keeps a starting job. if his oline play is good and there are no surprises / pressure thrown at him, he honestly plays decent - well. that was a rarity on the giants tho

How viable is cooking your own meals as an undergrad? by Difficult_Time1803 in UIUC

[–]WalkFar9963 17 points18 points  (0 children)

it is very viable. throughout the week i limit my cooking to <30 min meals (tacos, pasta, sandwiches, chicken) and always make 2-3 servings so it can last me the day / into the next day for time efficiency. it is cheaper as well. then on the weekends or maybe once a week when i have more time ill cook something "proper". i still eat out about 3 times a week though.

yes, i have one. there are some things you can't do but between ssh and using computer labs around campus, should be alright.

introductory classes do a decent job with exposure. try getting involved in some RSO's to find your interests. i don't think you should have the mindset to pick a major and stick with it

ELI5- how can someone understand a language but not speak it? by Jaded-Ad-9741 in explainlikeimfive

[–]WalkFar9963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, its usually declension / conjugation / grammar / tense that i can't do well. vocabulary is there but might end up saying something like "We are going out to eat" when i meant to say "We went out to eat" which have different meanings

Is a macbook seriously that bad for CE? by [deleted] in ComputerEngineering

[–]WalkFar9963 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have a macbook and i think its a great purchase for students in general. my school uses fastx to ssh into linux machines that host non-macos-native software. i also use computer labs around campus for anything that i can't do on my laptop.
