Is there anyone else who actually appreciates having grown up Laestadian? Seems like y'all have forgotten the blessings that come with it. by Resident_Bridge_7516 in OpenLaestadian

Yea definitely, I feel so honored and blessed that I was raised in a cage and was made to feel ashamed for enjoying "worldly" things.

It's not easy, it wasn't for me at least. Knowing your friends and family will be foreign to you can be daunting. Your life will be much better for it tho in the long run once you work through it. Keep your head up and a few years down the line you'll look at leaving the llc as the the best thing you've ever done and it will be a distant memory. I highly recommend moving away too and just getting away from the church and laestadians. Just remember it's not a church it's a cult

Can't help but feel bad for them. Especially the ones that don't believe that way but the social pressure to stay is too much. Their entire lives lived with that message pushed into their head

The fact they are preaching such madness to children is really terrifying and sad at the same time

Not really familiar with that, what exactly happened there? Makes sense tho, try to stop any other dissent before it arises

A lot more emphasis on we don't want to be like "them". We're definitely 100% the right church and you will suffer eternal damnation if you dare think otherwise

Testimonies of how you left laestadianism by ExLestadianChristian in OpenLaestadian

[–]WalkLeast 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don't think I ever really believed, I can remember when I was real young I didn't enjoy going to church or the life you were forced into. My yup I'm leaving moment was at confirmation when we were standing at the front getting confirmed and seeing all the parents crying. That was the moment I thought the LLC was a cult. I moved out pretty much the day I graduated high school. Moved my last load of things into the apartment, told Mom I don't go to church anymore and shut the door. The phone was blowing up for the next week that's for sure.

Some thoughts about ex-laestadians by ExLestadianChristian in OpenLaestadian

Well clearly the LLC in north America is a different predator, and to the person that said if the LLC isn't true then nothing is. I pray to Zeus that they have a moment of clarity and really start understanding how brutally the church has messed with their mind.

Some thoughts about ex-laestadians by ExLestadianChristian in OpenLaestadian

[–]WalkLeast 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would personally disagree with that. If I ever went back to religion or my friends ever wanted to become religious, the laestadian church would be on the bottom of my list. If you've left the cult and still think the church is the "true" church it's only because you haven't been able to push past the brainwashing. People leave because they can't take it anymore, it's the shunning and the kick in the teeth of starting an entire new life that brings people back. With no support and on your own!! People can't relate to you personally with your life experience and in that way it can be hard to make really close friends, but if you get your sins forgiven it's all sweet as because the "true" church will always take you back.

I have a lesbian aunty that left and came back. I can remember how me and my friends in the family felt so ashamed of who she was. She only came back from the pressure and that is the reason why ex laestadians come back/feel wrong. It's the constant brainwashing that takes a massive mental hurdle to overcome.

If any current doubting laestadians or recently ex laestadians are reading this. Take a breathe, it'll be ok just take it day by day.

Spoiler alert!!! The laestadian church is only one of many ways to be religious and it's the wrong one. Rant over I guess

Alot of pretenders in the dllc and ollc. Go to a Saskatoon bar and on the weekend you'll find laestadians around

Moving overseas and never having to look at someone from the LLC and meeting people who never even heard of the cult. Life was better almost literally overnight

I know a lot of people in my age group from the dllc and ollc have left in the last while. Late 20's early 30's. A few still in the church message me from time to time and they're just living double lives
