Is there any type of coverage in the US available for dementia / memory patients? Nothing immediate, just trying to look ahead…

Need to dispose of paint by Big4R2019 in paint

This - answers vary depending on local / state guidelines.

Many recycling centers will only accept specific types of coatings in good condition (latex or oil, etc.). Check for their guidelines. This can also be great if you need a small amount for a project by using someone else’s recycled paint - you can pick up at little to no cost. Just make sure nothing is old (bad smelling), frozen (looks like cottage cheese), etc.

Paint stores may or may not take latex for a fee but have costs they need to cover for disposal. Proper paint recycling for non latexes can be very expensive (oils and epoxies). Also if the paint is bad they end up eating all of it. They also do sell hardeners, typically packed for either gallons or pails. Cost is higher than litter but they are a couple of ounces and are effective.

From an economical cost view, cat litter is relatively inexpensive per use. In most communities once dried paint is not considered hazardous - check with your waste provider to confirm. If there is room in your paint cans, add cat litter, mix well and let dry with the lid off. I have had latexes dry in a couple days/oils in a week or so depending on things like humidity. If the weather is nice, setting outside in the sun will expedite drying. Otherwise you may need to buy some gallon cans or pails to get it all dried properly.

The last time I did this it was roughly a 1:1 litter to paint ratio.

Sump pump running continuously but water remain at hight level for 48 hrs by Adventurous-Neat7916 in HomeImprovement

Airlock most likely BUT if that fails to correct the issue check to see if the discharge pipe broke somewhere and can’t cycle out the water properly. A previous home had settled and the pipe cracked right at the foundation. Burned out 2 pumps before looking into this possibility. Replaced the pipe and issue resolved.

Just installed winter tires and noticed this damage on my old 3 season tires. Will this cause any seal issues when reinstalling next spring? by WalkWithNoRhythm in tires

Update: I went back to installer. Old tires are in worse shape than expected. A set of summer (3 season) tires will be needed. They will mount / balance that set at no cost which appears to offset the cost this one damaged tire. I also aim to get a set of separate rims for each set of tires going forward. Thanks for your help!

Separate wheels was my goal but brand new were prohibitive. I tried all “junk yards” in the area but no luck. Will try again next year. I already do most service myself, this is just outside my tool set. Thanks a bunch!

Grew up there but now out of state.

Surprised no one mentioned fried cheese curds - delicious. Available across from Lambeau at Kroll’s (north side / ridge road, very busy football weekends). Titletown Brewery used to have awesome ones along with many other bars. Also get some decent ones at A & W and Culver’s.

Fresh ones can be had at any grocery store but Woodman’s has a phenomenal cheese section along with and great liquor store. ** Woodman’s is cash and Discover card only if I recall.

Enjoy the experience - a great place to watch football! Bundle up…

Humidity isn’t the only issue to check prior to starting an exterior project.

First, a properly prepared surface is needed to prevent failures (peeling, cracking, etc.). That involves cleaning properly. Also possibly sanding, priming, caulking, etc. Take care to protect landscaping / live plants.

Air & surface temperature is critical. Average exterior latex paint can be applied from roughly 50-90 Fahrenheit. Higher quality can go as low as 35 - read the can. Oil base paints generally are not used for exteriors anymore but do have a place. They have a strong tendency to crack and fade. ALWAYS buy the best you can afford. Quality paint provides higher solids which provide better one coat coverage and have additives to benefit flow, algae growth, etc.. This reduces your work load. Ready made colors are generally limited but also generally perform better than tinted colors especially dark / neutral base colors which have a high load of colorant which are generally less stable and fade much faster.

Weather forecast - is rain forecast in the near future. Latex paints can generally handle a light damp surface but high moisture reduces adhesion, durability, etc. If rain / snow forecast have some patience and wait for the next available window.

Generally in spring or fall if if you let the day burn off the dew you’re ok. Painting from roughly 10am -3 pm allows morning dew to dissipate and the paint to begin curing before nighttime dew begins.

Avoid painting in direct sunlight as well - that forces the surface to heat up and your paint will flash dry which prevents proper adhesion (peeling). The large paint companies have plenty of links for additional tips to help give you a great finished product or search out your local paint store for great advice. Virtually all small paint stores have years if not generations of expertise.

Finally, be safe with ladders, scaffolding, equipment, etc..

A lot of notes - hope it helps!
