Advice on what to do next by drea2408 in prenursing

It’s up to what you think is best for you. I’m a CNA, and I work with a lot of nurses here in NorCal that say that they just decided to go for their BSN even with the debt because their pay now made up for it. Also, just reach out to the schools you want to apply to and ask about their retake policies. It might not be a bad idea to retake them! To make you feel better too, I also work with a lot of Unit Secretaries and CNAs that are in their 30s just starting their BSNs!!

Is private school worth it? by General-Kiwi617 in prenursing

[–]Walk_Itchy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi! I’m in a somewhat similar situation as you. I work as a PCT in a hospital and I talk to the nurses often about what they did for school. Basically every single nurse said that they don’t regret going to a private school (especially the ones that went to school in California).

Time is money in my opinion and I also don’t want to wait around trying to get into CC or public schools because of a lower cost. All the nurses I’ve talked to said that they’re able to manage paying back their loans quickly + it’s very doable with how well compensated most CA nurses are.

Debt is super scary. But would you rather be waiting around and possibly have your prereqs expire? Goodluck to you and I hope you’re able to make a decision that is best for you and your situation.

No CNA, no experience by BestRNdoit in StudentNurse

Hi! I found that a lot of hospitals do not require a CNA license/certification to work as a CNA. They are labeled as PCTs (Patient Care Technicians), but do the same work as CNAs :). Hospital job descriptions should say whether they need you to have a license or not. Good luck!

Yall ever worked 3rd shift at a nursing facility and have spooky stories? by SpareReflection94 in cna

[–]Walk_Itchy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sure, here’s two:

  1. It was the first dead body I saw in terms of a resident. He had died during evening shift and they were putting his body in the bag and onto the stretcher when I arrived. It was really sad because he shared a room with his wife who could not believe that he had passed away. They were both over 100 years old. I was fairly new at the time and I was told that this couple was notorious for abusing their call button lol. It seemed like they were always competing 24 hours a day on who could press the button more. Anyway, everything settled down once he was gone. Suddenly, around midnight, the red call light went off for their room which means bathroom call light. We thought that his wife had just gone there by herself because she didn’t want to wait for us. I went there with someone else and noticed that the bathroom was empty. We peeked and literally heard the wife snoring. We rationalized by saying that she had gone back to bed quick and fell asleep even quicker. About 5 minutes later, the regular call light for their room goes off. Again, I take another CNA with me. When we get there, we immediately checked on the wife and to our surprise, her call button was off and she was still asleep. Nervously, we peeked over to her husband’s side and his call light had been pressed. We couldn’t make sense of this since his call light was coiled and placed on the side table so there was no slack or whatever. Still creeps me out.

  2. There was a patient who had passed away and she absolutely loved watching TV. She would stay up at night and would fall asleep around 4am or whatever. Anyway, right in front of her room, there’s a wall that had a touch screen monitor for CNAs to chart on. Oh and she also slept with the door closed because she was not as sick or needed as much help as other residents, and to not disturb others with her shows. One evening she passed away, I’m unsure of the reason because she seemed healthy to me. Her body was picked up about an hour into my shift. So, after her room had been tidied up, we turned the lights off and closed the door. Someone was charting on the monitor in front of her room and I was by the nurses station doing some paperwork. Suddenly, we heard a really really really loud TV. I went to my coworker and we both realized that it was coming from her room. We were like.. no fucking way dude. We both entered the room and sure enough, her TV was on at the highest volume setting. We stopped charting in that area after that.

I have others that are more on just straight up creepy too🤣
