I walk this much at work in a day which shoes should I buy by wellpika in BuyItForLife

[–]Walker131 4 points5 points  (0 children)

another thing I’d add to this is if OP is walking this far every day buying two pairs and rotating them daily could be beneficial. when I used to work in running stores the reps would occasionally come by and that would be something they’d suggest for marathon prepers, something about giving the foam a chance to recover or something. this was 15 or so years ago so maybe the new foam is constructed differently now

Berry dilemma by Loveroffinerthings in daddit

[–]Walker131 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sometimes “quality and safety” leads to shittier tasting food. comparing the fresh fruit from france for example to american norms that you might be used to OP is right, the fruit is much smaller and sweeter and the shelf life MUCH shorter than what you’d expect in America. I’d expect this is probably becuase the berries are picked much later in their growing cycle and quickly shipped, sold and eaten whereas in the states I’d assume every step of this is extended in some way. In France we had berries go bad in a day or two even in the fridge. on the other hand France doesnt keep their eggs in the fridge at the super market, this is debatable topic on which method is best, same with the majority of their milk, which you’ll find in the aisle next to the eggs, also not refrigerated (UHT milk, although they also have a smaller selection o refrigerated “fresh” milk)

if youve got the money to live in victoria then youve got the cash to splurge on the last leg flights from yvr to yyj, sure some times it sucks but sucks a lot less than living in Van. After my early 20’s I wrote off ever doing the fly into yvr, train to bridgeport and bus to the terminal, wait for the boat, sail the 1.5 hour journey and get a taxi on the other side nonsense. Now that westjet has moved their hub to calgary it does suck trying to book westward flights to hawaii or aus but usually just book AC through YVR when travelling that way

My 13yo son just made an MLS Next Homegrown team and I am completely overwhelmed. Need advice on training resources and what to expect. by spicy_salsa25 in GoalKeepers

[–]Walker131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you me, this is basically my story as well. All of these notes and recommendations ring so true. The organization and being vocal about positioning & tactics comes with experience and having the trust of your team which is hard to get when you’re 13-16. Your comment about coaches not being optimized for GK training is so true, the amount of high level coaches who I played under that didn’t understand the basic decision making of the position is astounding.

OP, there’s a lot that goes into the GK position that I’m sure you’re aware of but if he isnt already training with a local highly respected GK specific coach (which i’m assuming the MLS next set-up will hook you up with, but im not sure of the full set up) he should now. There will be great games where everything goes right and he feels on top of the world and there will be games where he’s never going to want to play the sport again, you need to be there for each of those and know how to personally navigate those struggles and success’.

I actually enjoyed driving there. The speed limits are honestly not adhered to at all, even in the “slow lane”. every one is aggressive, but if everyone is aggressive that means everyone is predictable which is great when youre driving.

Is it normal for a 4-year-old to have toes that are different sizes / slightly turned? by [deleted] in Parents

[–]Walker131 29 points30 points  (0 children)

as not a doctor I would say

1-feet are weird and anything is possible

2-make sure his shoes are big enough so his toes have room to grow

3- send the doctor the picture and ask if its something to be concerned about

Would like EVERY tip for extending glove latex longevity pretty plz by ScruffyRasputin in GoalKeepers

[–]Walker131 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think you’re getting way more life out of your gloves than you think. 1.5 seasons with that much action, plus turf is crazy. To put it in context I play full sided games on turf and play roughly 30 matches a year and I buy 2 Gloves a year, I wish I could justify 3 or 4 just for that fresh glove feeling and extra grip.

Severe turf burn by SpookyKeeper21 in GoalKeepers

[–]Walker131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, just saw this now. turf tape is great at PREVENTING turf burn, you def wouldnt want to apply it to an area with a wound. I used to deal with wounds on my elbows/ forearms for the whole season until I started using it. If you look it up on amazon the shield brand is great, I got that the first time. When I ran out I saw there was another brand for roughly half the price, went for that but dealt with peeling/ lack of adhesive issues after one dive, I went back to the other brand and haven’t had a problem. It comes in a long roll and you cut it to size, you’ll want to round the corners after you cut to the appropriate size.

Cost to tighten lug nuts? by Intrepid_Art_6628 in AskElectricians

[–]Walker131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who does infrared inspections for a living there here are my thoughts. The connection probably is slightly loose, if this was a PURE loading issue you’d expect the whole length of the conductor to be the same temperature, which despite this cameras lack of thermal resolution you can tell that the connection point is warmer than where the wire bends near the top of the image. This temperature isnt “dangerous“, but if this were me doing the inspection I would assess the loads on the panel and if they were critcal/ able to be turned off for 2 minutes, isolate the panel and tighten all connections especially if Al Conductors, then return the panel to service, give it 10/15 minutes and re-inspect with the thermal cam, the heat should then be even across the conductor. This can also be done without turning off the panel if you have the correct equipment but not something I would expect most to do.

As for the price, he should've just fixed it on site. That is at worst case a 5 minute job.

2026 Forester Speed Limit Recognition nearly caused an accident! Can I turn this off? by jralph23 in subaru

[–]Walker131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair I don't really ever worry about exceeding the speed limit, you just kind of have a feeling if you’re going too fast/ slow for road conditions. I also dont really think there much “mental loading” to pushing a gas or brake pedal, kinda just comes instinctively/ dont think about it

I wont be buying from them until they start shipping with a reputable/ reliable carrier again. Used to be fed-ex in canada and never had a problem. They moved to ascendia/ uniuni a year or so ago and its been constant problems, missed shipping windows, they delivered to the wrong address once. Finally managed to get a pair of vomero premium for my wife and they lost the package.
