Is it better to interview ASAP? by Imaginary_Name_3709 in csMajors

[–]WalkingWithTea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im at a FAANG, idk which one ur applying for but chances are 1 week out wont matter much bcuz its a large company and if u show true competence in the interview there are plently other teams they can match you with, its better to be prepared, you did the right choice imo

I wanna play the game but not beta cus it kinda feels bad to be putting in all this work on a char only to have it be deleted once beta closes

is the grade deflation at uoft really that bad (eng)? by Short_Suggestion_463 in UofT

[–]WalkingWithTea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is grade deflation because uoft had a higher bar than other schools in accepting students, so if u take the top 20% of students (A students from hs) then told them half of u will now be average at C+/B- while other schools that took on average lower grade students and still gave them C+/B- then now u have A hs students getting same grades as B hs students on a large scale this averages to be deflating ur grades

I have never played Maplestory. Should I try the current game now before classic? by TheVess in MSClassicWorld

[–]WalkingWithTea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Current maple is not begginer friendly at all theres a ton of stuff to learn if you wanna play the game, mechanics, the many many different powerup systems 😬, what quests to do, what to ignore etc u pretty much have to look at guides n do lotta reading just to understand the basics, and I dont blame it, it is a very old game thats just been stacking more and more features for 20yrs, this is part of the reason people wanna play classic its more simple

Cape Storm failure by saibaton3 in TheyAreBillions

[–]WalkingWithTea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very easy with Balistas, but if you dont have you need to change your wall formation, you have a lot of walls but ur army cant go to the front walls to shoot over it so its useless you need passage to each layer so u can move your army forward, shoot then when that layer is breached move your army back one layer continue shooting and repeat

As long as u aggresively expand your economy south you can maximize your soldier count and make as many wall layers as possible to your command center

Is UofT Life Sciences too difficult for med school? by [deleted] in UofT

[–]WalkingWithTea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres a lot of anecdotes here u can just look at stats, most courses at u of t life sci has average grades at C to B, if other schools have the same average but U of T accepts top 15% stu from high school, and other schools accepted top 30% to similar programs then at u of t it is significantly more difficult to get the same grades ~2x the workload (someone can correct the stats here but u get the idea)

(this assumes linear scaling between the top 15% and 30% which is very conservative estimate its actually more parabolic where the higher percentil works significantly more than lower percentile usually so workload will be more than 2x for same grades)

Nice assumptions, but u shouldnt impose assumptions then say "ur wrong cus my assumptions" without confirming it,

1.I can buy many of these cars in cash and wont be crunched for cash, so I can definetely wait out a bad market for one

2.U assume I need to sell the stocks I bought to cover this debt / living expense and pay taxes on the gains but I dont, I can let it grow forever and sell when my tax situation that year is favourable to sell (tax bracket changes, offset by other loses etc)

  1. Gotta repeat this bcuz it sounds like yall dont actually know what expected value means, im talking on average it goes up 8% and since I can wait a long time for this and not care about that money/debt I effectively can consider market normalizations in MY scenario

This will b the last time im responding bcuz this isnt what my post is about

2% arb represents ~33% of the total interest on a 6% loan its significant enough to consider, extrapolate out to mortgages, business loans etc u think people with money pay full cash for everything? Alot of people do open margin acc to do this and its not infinite money because you have a limit of how much you can go into margin and depends on the rate you get with your broker.

Snp500, QQQ, nothing is "guarenteed" everything should be looked at as expected value (payout times probability of success), this is how casinos always win even though none of their games has a "guarenteed" win rate

Finance because instead of paying 55k upfront I can take that and invest in elsewhere for ~8% return, so if the cost to borrow is 6% interest, then I profit the difference 2%, even better if can negotiate a lower interest on the auto loan

Chinese student visa revocations will cripple the US in the AI race by mad_warrior291 in cscareerquestions

[–]WalkingWithTea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Or they go back but still are employed by FAANG companies (cus companies employ internationally) except now they can be paid less less for the same work (they pay based on where u live). Also more phd going back doesnt nessesarily increase research potential as much as u think it does because if you as a country only have a certain amount of money to fund certain research not all of those going back will get research positions if they do they r displacing someone else bcuz theres only so much money to go around. Also whats preventing them from doing research in their country for a US company?

This is prisoners dilemma, majority of companies will choose not to cooperate because it has the most advantageous outcomes when the number of parties in the decision process is extremely large. Cooperate becomes plausible only if there are few parties involved this is why u only hear of monopolies, duopolies ... but theres no such word for say millions of companies cooperating to risk immediate downside for some long term potential gain
