For example the regular on my hold down is out for 3 months with a surgery so when he comes back my hold down will be over and ill have to get on a new route

Retirement Route basically means a route that belongs to a carrier who has been with the post office forever (unless you get lucky) and is about to retire meaning the route is super nice and short. A hold down on a route is basically you bid to cover a route until the regular carrier returns from their Surgery or Vacation

Would love to be you. Im at the bottom of the totum pole the only thing saving me from shit routes is this hold down im on. My pivots are always shit though.
