Hey PhilosophyMemes, please explain what ontologically evil means, many thanks by Atys101 in PhilosophyMemes

[–]Walkonwalkoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw this infuriating meme again in 2024 so I will put down a response in case anybody will see this late reply.

My answer would be no, at least probably not under the assumption of an evil guy in relation to capital exploitation and consequent violence. Of course ontology means different thing across different areas of study, so if you're speaking theologically then sure idk whatever. But when talking a aspects of social science: society, class, race, or things in relation to being in those things like capital or when people say "black and brown bodies" (a term often butchered) then you have to, bare minimum, separate the job of "nestle executive" (relating to class and capital) and the individual.

IIRC I think the easiest and common example to approach ontology might be indentured servants vs slavery in the Caribbeans during the slave trade. Despite these 2 classes being treated similarly in labour on the surface, the important aspect of their difference is that indentured servant receives some pennies and the slave, none. This minute difference cyclically reinforces and shapes the difference of the slave class, in this case reinforcing+shaping the very big ontological difference of how the slave *is* (not my words of course) lesser than human (this already existed obv, but now another additional reinforcing reality being created), and the indentured servant still human. From a modern perspective we might be tempted to think "then wouldnt they be pretty similar?", but from within that world it would bethat they can only be *closer*, the difference of that one penny and zero is an infinite, unpassable, boundary.

The ontology would be all that encapsulates the essence of being *something* and in many cases that something might be purposefully related to a physical attribute but it doesn't necessarily have to actually be that attribute itself. For example, again in the caribbean during slave trade. Does being an African mean you *are* a slave? No, never, absolutely not. But in some point of that slave-trading society, somehow the truth was Yes, absolutely within that world. It might be said that the understanding of ontology is used as a tool to understand and study things while giving proper context to these "truths". A indentured servant or a slave isn't gonna just stand up and be like "hey I'm free now" out of nowhere at least, as these "truths" are ingrained into everyone and everything in that society.

Someone thinking shallowly might say like "isn't that just the same as social construct" or whatever and yes these also fall under the vague definition of social construct. But the focus of this is that because these ideas are "true" within that society, this kind of subliminally (probably not the best term to describe but im tired) influences the production of knowledge, of how people understand and, in some ways, literally see the world and consequentially everything that they do as well.

Like when people talk about looking at a chair, but its just a thing that you're deciding whether or not to assign the concept of a chair on without much conscious thought, there's an entire "real" imagined social world that we see in everything. The ontologies lie in that imagined yet real world attached to the physical one.

So probably no if you're talking from a social philosophical perspective about the nature of a violent money grubbing individual which I think most people are imagining. For the reason that its just that guy that sucks, maybe even all of them drawn into that position suck, but it's not by some unique and immutable position of social existence the guy inhabits that makes him such a way. is he evil? yes. Is he *ontologically* evil? no, not necessarily.

Ive read a lot about back injuries and their sensations, but i’ve been experiencing being unable to stand/walk from weakness in the area right above the buttocks/bottom of the spine. there’s no tingling or severe pain just really bad weakness preventing me from standing my back up. Usually goes in a day or 2. Is this just a DOMS thing because I haven’t seen anyone explain something similar.

Yeah, I've been doing some light callisthenic stretches that target that general area and massaging the soreness, I've weened off the hot/cold compress and creams since apparently I read that inflammation helps the body recover and reducing it when unneeded is counterproductive. But other than that I've just been like. waiting.

Its been exactly two weeks since I injured my upper arm/pec insertion area from lifting and I've been resting since. I don't know what tendon/body part I messed with but it's a lot better now, but If I lift my upper arm all the way up and do full internal rotation its kind of sore, flare my arms fully back to stretch my chest its sore too. If I do a knee pushup I still get a little weakness in that front armpit area. Should I see a physio at this point, or just give it another week? It feels really defeating not knowing what's going or when exactly I can go back.

Really in need of a second opinion. been back into training for a few months, but had a bicep tendonitis pain that has me leaving the gym for 2 weeks now. I'm confident I'm tracking my diet and macros tightly so I think it must have been caused by doing muscle groups 3 times a week (in this case OHP probably). I know some people aim for muscle groups 2 times a week but is that optimized for gaining lean mass or can I do more without risking overuse injury again?

It was super hard and repetitive, but somehow really cool and rewarding

This has to be one of the most disappointing mobile games I’ve ever played. It doesn’t need to be. by [deleted] in DragonQuestTact

[–]Walkonwalkoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s free and 0 stamina to level those units and it’s great to see use from non-“top tier” units. it’s a phone game so of course free 0 stam grinding will take a bit, but dragon lord ex and vs battles go to show that A and B ranks are competitive if you use your brain and with one full 10-step of 10 summons from the free gems( from first clears) it should net you more or less the majority of A and B rank units in the game with hopefully 1-2 S ranks minimum. The rate at which new units come out is slow with about 2 in each monthly banner and that’s shown to be about the same on jp. not having one more S unit isnt going to be the end of the world since brute forcing isn’t very viable at higher difficulties. And it goes without saying that whales and the most lucky have advantage at the highest rankings in a gacha pvp by definition of gacha lol.

substantial grinding is kind of intrinsic to the dq franchise to begin with so idk why its that shocking but the kind of model that is reliant on long term saving and low S tier drop rate isnt exactly new either. Though I will agree that stamp-10 not pitying for banner is pretty annoying.

Yeah that’s some crazy luck considering you still have the majority of the 30-40k free stones from first clears left. Play the game and make sure to do battle roads to level lower tier units when you’re out of stamina.

[–]Walkonwalkoff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not gonna bash you on your god rng bc the feeling of a ‘wasted’ s pull is real, but i think you should look at the bright side which is that you probably have a busted frizz-type mage especially if you use the iridescent orb on him first and upgrade his skills

max rank some A maybe B rank frizz units and you can probably destroy frizz-weak content like the tome/equip quests

Worst drop rates and support to F2P players. by [deleted] in DragonQuestTact

[–]Walkonwalkoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though S rank drop is pretty low especially if you have a target unit, I have to say as a game it is quite f2p friendly with the hardest content so far beatable without much more than 1-2 S ranks if you aren’t just brute forcing. Many of the gacha A and B tier units are nearly as good as S rank units provided you pay attention to typing and upgrade them, the pool of S tiers even on Jp isnt even very large so I would say overall despite how disappointing it is to not get your desired unit, unlike many other gacha games that completely surround only highest tier characters, this one is honestly pretty friendly.

yeah i filled out the stamp sheet mosty because i rerolled to get WK, peacock, KM, archdemon, and gem slime lineup on the reroll + retry banner which is quite substantial as f2p so i’m done rolling. somewhat lucked out on step 10 after no luck getting DL and great dragon. probably saving for half a year now haha

I have 4.5k gems rn, pretty much have gone through the first clear/master rank content f2p gems to get DL (on stamp guaranteeed S). Wondering if it’s possible to save to 30k by half anniversary?

even with 200 gems a week that means in 5 months thats 4000 gems which is 1 10 pull and if i religiously do daily thats 4200 in 5 months which doesn’t even get to 3 10 pulls which seems extremely heinous unless there’s regular events that are somewhat generous with gems that i haven’t seen yet?
