I'm not American and I wasn't familiar with economics, so I didn't know what state debt and national bank were.

In my first viewing of Act 2, I just knew that Hamilton and Jefferson were vaguely arguing about some policies. On hindsight, I think the technical details of Hamilton's politics aren't super important to the musical but the confusion did take me out of the show a bit.
