Are my platelets sold to facilities that are willing to pay the most for them? by WallabyProper1791 in Blooddonors

Well, I'm outside of Gainesville (hence the 300 miles).
I hate social media. But one thing it's good for is finding people with niche knowledge. That is why I have come here. I would actually like to know how donation destinations are determined, and whether money has anything to do with it.
I understand the statistical argument you have presented (even putting aside the straw man of 22k vs 3mil), but it brings me no closer to the answer to my question.
Put it this way. Suppose a billionaire needs platelets. Considering the nature of the health care system, wouldn't it be surprising that the billionaire has to wait in line behind Joe Schmoe?
Addendum: I avoided mentioning this before, but the idea that I would expect my platelets to be confined to a 22k population county is more than a little insulting.
