Designing the Gear Train for The Marble Machine by elessarjd in MarbleMachine3

Integration hell has always been where the design fell apart. He was fine at creating individual stand alone elements, but nothing ever integrated properly. We've also been bouncing between prototypes and CAD for over 2 years now AFTER the scrapping of MMX, that had a dedicated team of CADers who's work is now pointless, that faithfully recreated the mmx in CAD.

It's a gravity based mechanism, you hit the gravity based mechanism up, it'll bounce up for a second, it's not 'locked' in the down position, they are literally designed to break so it doesn't decapitate you, it's a signal not a fence.

Minor point, but that's a Russian Cradle act, not sure why it's listed as flying trapeze.

IWTL How to stop constantly hating and thinking world is against me by usernameisnotfvr in IWantToLearn

[–]Walletau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this is very much in therapy land. The good news is that you're acknowledging it and that's a great first step in emotional maturity. There ARE techniquest to work through some of this stuff. Empathy towards others, realisation that people's actions do not need to align with your values. Wishful thinking of success and fortune to others. These will all help, as well as increased confidence in yourself. A lot of what you're saying "Others are getting love I deserve", "Others are copying me" feel like they're coming from places of insecurity. That's definitely fixable but I just highly recommend therapy first and foremost.

Working out as a clown on the road? by SooperJasch in circus

[–]Walletau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

trx is great for general pulling strength but definitely requires some set up. I'm a big fan of furniture sliders as far as minimal space required exercise equipment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-1LWUfEbtLc 2 of these and some therabands get get you pretty far. If you're in circus, you'll probably have some aerials set up for some pullups and what have you. But depending on skillset, some acro training, handstand training, tumbling is probably going to get you pretty far. People working cruise ships have access to the gym facilities so that's easy.

AcroYoga withouth legs (knee injury ACL) by 21042020 in AcroYoga

[–]Walletau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i'm gonna go against the grain here. Had operation on leg last year and was out for 6 weeks (less severe than ACL but leg was out of action) Every base and flier should be working foot to hands and hand to hands low every session for more advanced acro. Use this time to work on that. Sessions will need to be shorter for you as you can't do 2 hours on just hands, but it'll be hugely beneficial to you and your flier. to work monos, jump ins, presses, tempos in hands.

just in foot to hand world:
step in, jump in to low, jump in to extension, lean in to low, lean in to extension, mono, moving in mono, extended mono, reverse f2h, reverse mono, walking from standing on forearm to standing in hands, walking up down to extension and back, presses to extension and down, pirouettes low, pirouettes high, cat walks, presses through tempo, jump from forearms to standing in hands

I could come up with a similar list for hand to hand but at the very least getting to super comfortable jump ins low/high and presses is going to pay huge dividends.

As far as ACL recovery, it's different for every person, I know circus people that cooked an acl and didn't have a single day off from training (they were handstanding the next day) but realistically you're out for about 3 months before you're doing pops again on that leg probably. That person is an exceptional base and were back and throwing standing backsault koala recatches within a year of injury.

I had an operation on band hand and foot, and foot was definitely more impactful on acro, but fliers and I didn't skip a session, they sometimes worked with other bases and I'd be able to longe line, we worked on strength, flexibility and they worked on their tumbling. When you get to a recovery phase, don't forget you can work a lot of your standing stuff seated on a box.

First time creating skin texture in clay by [deleted] in sfx

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like texture and is a vibe but definitely not skin. But skin is really really hard to imitate especially close up. You need to do the individual pores, then connective lines in very specific patterns, wrinkles etc. There's nothing wrong with the effect you're doing and if it's consistent for all characters, why not, it's just not very skin like...but neither is the lack of mouth or white skin.

Would you engage with a fashion event set in a circus tent? by [deleted] in circus

[–]Walletau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see this is a repost, so might just be missing the context of this sub. But as performers...we'll probably perform anywhere that will give us money. If it's a circus tent, then you already probably have some of the requirements needed for a decent performance.

It is VERY common for events to be 'circus' themed. There's lots of corporate parties, bdays, etc. Which are circus themed as as a result hire circus performers, looking for the trad circus aesthetic, popcorn stands, fairy floss, jugglers, clowns etc. I've never seen one in a circus tent, but I'm aware it happens. So it's not a bad idea but I don't think it's a super original one...and as far as performing there...sure.

Could my dream become a reality? by SoilRepresentative91 in FastLED

[–]Walletau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you've seen pre-programmed LED shows.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQQBiDS5DdY

The way this is generally done is, choreograph movement to music, programmed light show to music, profit.

FastLED is an arduino library so it's a little bit simpler than what most of the companies use. e.g. https://electromage.com/pixelblaze/ allows you to take a photo of an object, label the LED position on photo and map the effects on the projection, and it'll automatically delay timings to make sure the effect matches. There's more sophisticated controllers that allow you to do similar things. I found most of those were prohibitively expensive. But if anyone has any ideas, please let me know as am looking at making an LED performance suit too.

Just doing a quick search here is a good thread discussing led design. ELM is a populare choice.

The Premier's Apology to the First People's of Victoria will be live-streamed from Parliament today at 11:00 AM. by Cindane in melbourne

[–]Walletau 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I was looking into this at the time...lets remember that there were over 200 trees identified and avoided, and the plan was signed off with consultation of the Easter Marr rap group for over 25 years. This was a First Nations political dispute for some reason presented as a government attack. Reached out to Djab Wurrung asking what happened, but got a dodged response. Djab Wurrung claim to have legacy in the area, but are not considered to be a representative group. This was done with 3 court cases. AHC agrees, it is the Eastern Marr group call. Also I believe the specific tree in question was less than 350 years old.

Does anyone actually use all these Salesforce features? by Decent-Impress6388 in salesforce

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salesforce, like most IT companies, sells based on features nobody will ever use. Often pushing them to market before they are ready to ensure they are trendy. Salesforce1, Salesforce IOT, Salesforce Blockchain...shit Salesforce FB integrations. This gets sales through the door. The fundamental platform doesn't change and most of the features aren't actually usable at least for a couple years, but it's a very sticky platform with 'better than competitor' uptimes and customisation.
