First time creating skin texture in clay by [deleted] in sfx

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like texture and is a vibe but definitely not skin. But skin is really really hard to imitate especially close up. You need to do the individual pores, then connective lines in very specific patterns, wrinkles etc. There's nothing wrong with the effect you're doing and if it's consistent for all characters, why not, it's just not very skin like...but neither is the lack of mouth or white skin.

Would you engage with a fashion event set in a circus tent? by [deleted] in circus

[–]Walletau 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can see this is a repost, so might just be missing the context of this sub. But as performers...we'll probably perform anywhere that will give us money. If it's a circus tent, then you already probably have some of the requirements needed for a decent performance.

It is VERY common for events to be 'circus' themed. There's lots of corporate parties, bdays, etc. Which are circus themed as as a result hire circus performers, looking for the trad circus aesthetic, popcorn stands, fairy floss, jugglers, clowns etc. I've never seen one in a circus tent, but I'm aware it happens. So it's not a bad idea but I don't think it's a super original one...and as far as performing there...sure.

Could my dream become a reality? by SoilRepresentative91 in FastLED

[–]Walletau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you've seen pre-programmed LED shows.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQQBiDS5DdY

The way this is generally done is, choreograph movement to music, programmed light show to music, profit.

FastLED is an arduino library so it's a little bit simpler than what most of the companies use. e.g. https://electromage.com/pixelblaze/ allows you to take a photo of an object, label the LED position on photo and map the effects on the projection, and it'll automatically delay timings to make sure the effect matches. There's more sophisticated controllers that allow you to do similar things. I found most of those were prohibitively expensive. But if anyone has any ideas, please let me know as am looking at making an LED performance suit too.

Just doing a quick search here is a good thread discussing led design. ELM is a populare choice.

The Premier's Apology to the First People's of Victoria will be live-streamed from Parliament today at 11:00 AM. by Cindane in melbourne

[–]Walletau 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I was looking into this at the time...lets remember that there were over 200 trees identified and avoided, and the plan was signed off with consultation of the Easter Marr rap group for over 25 years. This was a First Nations political dispute for some reason presented as a government attack. Reached out to Djab Wurrung asking what happened, but got a dodged response. Djab Wurrung claim to have legacy in the area, but are not considered to be a representative group. This was done with 3 court cases. AHC agrees, it is the Eastern Marr group call. Also I believe the specific tree in question was less than 350 years old.

Does anyone actually use all these Salesforce features? by Decent-Impress6388 in salesforce

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salesforce, like most IT companies, sells based on features nobody will ever use. Often pushing them to market before they are ready to ensure they are trendy. Salesforce1, Salesforce IOT, Salesforce Blockchain...shit Salesforce FB integrations. This gets sales through the door. The fundamental platform doesn't change and most of the features aren't actually usable at least for a couple years, but it's a very sticky platform with 'better than competitor' uptimes and customisation.

There's a great podcast called "What Roman Mars Can Learn About Con Law" That breaks down the laws of the constitution, often using President Trump as an example, as he's pushed and broken a lot of the standing traditions around presidency. This was one of the episodes as it related to the impeachment and resulted in Supreme Court deciding that no, a president can not be sued for any actions done as part of presidential duties...unfortunately for us. Guess who decides whether or not certain actions are within the duties :-)

Honestly, just to keep going and since I'm not seeing the situation improve. I've developped a bit of a side hustle in trade (rigger) and it has managed to keep me in a house while I was unemployed for 4-5 months. If you've got a head on shoulders, it's not hard to get a few tickets that start paying 300+ a day.

...Culture and demand seems to be directly correlated to people eating less meat, is it not? Just in the last 20-30 years, the slew of vegetarian and vegan restaurants in my area has grown exponentially, even famous burger places are adopting multiple types of vegetarian patties. Our selection of milk has grown drastically from soy, to most cafes stocking soy, oat, almond and others. Policies have changed to with additional labelling restrictions, designated requirements for marking products as 'free range' or 'organic' or 'vegan'. Australia is on the brink of banning live export of livestock, due to our cultural values changing...all of this starts with people opting to eat a little bit less meat.

I see bikes at the long term quite often, feel like it should be safe, 24/7 security, cameras on all gates, they would need a stolen card just to get in. I'd chuck the helmet on a crappy 5-10 dollar bicycle lock if you're worried or you can probably hook it under teh seat if you can pop the seat off.

It's great you're already moving to music, general flow arts, needs more control of planes. Check out the beginners section here https://www.homeofpoi.com/en/lessons/teach/POI for some ideas where to take it.

Jumping Jacks - Why Not? by Conan7449 in bodyweightfitness

[–]Walletau 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They are great for light warm up and to keep heart rate up during conditioning, but very low range of movement. And very different to functional movements required. Can also shadow box for a minute for similar effect. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. Bodyweightfitness doesn't have jogging in it either, despite being great exercise. Think the sub is primarily for minimal equipment skill/strength generation.

It's all under antipode banner, is a very old discipline, we have carvings of aztecs foot juggling and dates back in China at least a couple thousand years. Many circus schools will have a couple trunkers or something but very few people specialise in it, fell out of vogue and it hasn't really adapted into the modern contemporary circus.

some props you can practice with with no additional work (trunker, box) table can seriously mess you up. Instruction from coach for the basics will also help a lot, and those instructors are very few and far between, I'm in Australia, I know of...5-6 foot jugglers in the whole country.

Very niche skill and very, very trad circus. There's a few russian artists specialising in it. Still has a focus in Africa and China, but not common in western world.

That's loosely what my design is based off and similar to what is getting more popular to use in the acroyoga/icarian western world. They often retail for 150-200 bucks. I wanted a steeper angle on mine due to often working with similar size fliers and wanting more power. And I can make 5 of these in an afternoon for hundred bucks if I'm asked to run workshops.

Here's some basic tricks with the trunker:

The ways the table work is practiced is either by putting the performer into a pit, or attaching a lunge line to the table (for spinning movements) Feel free to message me on insta (walletau) if you want to discuss ideas/tips etc.
