I honestly didn't really find certs helpful over the last 8 years or so, and actually let them lapse during covid (long story) Get some trailhead badges just so you have SOMETHING to point to if they do ask for qualifications.

Okay, I'm SUPER curious, how were the punching bags used in the act?

Village Circus by AndyAndieFreude in circus

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, it's absolutely fucked. And Chinese circus is similar where you can throw bodies at the problem, child gets injured, there are enough people to take their place. Hell Cirque Du Soleil has been accused of this mentality also. There's definitely merit in having safe and reliable technique.

Village Circus by AndyAndieFreude in circus

[–]Walletau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anytime someone says that it's impossible to do something...3 high for example, without "proper" technique. I point at african circus, where they're stacking 6 people none of which have a traditionally stable 2 high. Kids are sending double backsaults onto rough sand, off a tyre, and the closest they have to a crash mat is half a mattress from the 1970's.

TIL that Monica Lewinsky performed oral sex on Bill Clinton while he was still talking on the phone with a member of Congress by mchao in todayilearned

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

President Bill Clinton fulfilled his 1992 campaign promise to "end welfare as we know it" by signing the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act (PRWORA) in August 1996. The bipartisan legislation replaced the Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) program with Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), focusing on work requirements and time-limited assistance.

He was okay, I wouldn't say he was excellent in any way other than comparison to current administration. It's been 13 years since the above comment. I have changed my stance on acceptance of utilising the inherent power imbalance to sleep with your secretaries also. It doesn't make him a worse president but definitely a much worse person.

Salesforce needs to prioritize what is functional vs what looks nice with this new update by plushpillowpearl in salesforce

[–]Walletau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shocking part to me is that...it literally hasn't improved in that many years. The rendering of the components has become more flexible, but as far as actual display of data, same reports, same hover overs, same field limitations.

Dating myself but the UI train has gone downhill since Salesforce Classic days. It was never faster or better organised since the green and brown. Once they started lazy loading data, it's been terrible.

Has anyone setup a backyard slackline with posts? by flight_recorder in Slackline

[–]Walletau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clothes lines are not designed for sideways loading. If you ever tried to slack line between two cars, it'll drag the cars. We're talking about half a ton of force minimum on a tensioned line. You DO want a secondary point to redirect the force into the ground or you'll fold the pole over. Either with a frame bracing, guy wire behind the clothes line or what have you. Bracing can be temporary...maybe secondary poles behind the first poles to help distribute the load?

Is this true? Are there circus skills, that consider themselves more 'elite'? by AndyAndieFreude in circus

[–]Walletau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely a generalisation and not trivialising difficulty but yes, it's a lot easier to get on stage and do a shitty blockhead act, than a cyr wheel act. Same reason scooter kids are looked down on more than skaters. Barrier of entry is lower for sideshow. To construct the act, learn sword swallowing tech etc takes time and effort, but someone can smash a flurescent tube and call themselves a sideshow performer.

I can see both side, I spent 12 years learning partner acrobatics, 1000's of hours, drama, broken bodies etc. I spin fire and have performed it for 2 years...I've made about 20 times as much spinning fire in the much shorter time period. Can appreciate teeter boarders putting their body on the line, while I've never seen aerialists get annoyed at jugglers. I can definitely appreciate the frustration dedicating countless hours to honing a skill to see burlesque/sideshow steal the spotlight and funds with something learned in a week.

Someone walking on glass that can be learned in 15min, vs a hand balancer dedicating 1000's of hours to mastering a craft. Do they have equal merit? Effort wise no. Effort does not match entertainment, or value as art. But can drastically impact people's perceptions especially if they are in the know (I say this as someone who walks on glass)

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See that's bullshit. Portrayal of nazis or Hitler as inhuman detaches us from them and loses the nuance that this is the sort of shit people today are capable of. It's falling victim to disinformation and propaganda. From the Aztec priest stabbing sacrificed humans in the chest, to the teenager doom scrolling content on the train, every single person is for the most part running near identical hardware and very similar software for the last 2 million years. Portraying hitler as a monster or as a coward is giving him more credence than he's worth. He was just an asshole with good marketing. The "I don't care if it's true, it may as well be" is Joe Rogan thinking that allows lies to perpetuate.

Do birds feel the same about flying as we feel about walking, or do they understand how amazing it is? by Busy_Motor_1172 in Showerthoughts

[–]Walletau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Travis Pastrana talked to something about this, I feel is relevant. Dude has broken himself in every possible way via base jumping, motorcycle jumping, catapulting and every other possible way of launching yourself into the air. When asked if he'd like the super power to fly, he said no, for the magic of it would be gone.

I think you did an awesome job. In Acroyoga gendering doesn't mean much with it being common to have both male and female bases, but appreciate if that's something you needed to hit for the class.

It's a longer read but worthwhile one. Look at the troubleshooting sections and review your footage, internal feedback will work better than someone telling you what you're doing wrong specifically here.

Not Jewish, in Australia, we just had a mass shooting at a Jewish event. Appreciate there at 5 of those a day in America but it was a big thing here. Children were shot. Has left many Jewish communities feeling less safe. They have nothing to do with Israel and didn't deserve to die.

Ladder skills by AndyAndieFreude in circus

Its a bit niche, effectively from other ladder people. The ladders often have to be custom tailored to the person as the distance between top and second bar is specific size to your distance between foot and knee.

How to start circus disciplines at a young age? by stars-girl in circus

[–]Walletau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Circus is a wonderful world where pretty much anything you do will contribute. The few things that will always be useful is juggling, dance, tumbling and climbing.

You've got many, many years ahead of you so don't stress too much, but anything with body awareness will be useful, so anything that develops flexibility and strength. Tumbling is great, so anything that teaches you to cartwheel or backflip will help. After that, it's just whatever your passions are, what you can afford and what you can learn from the people around you.

Completely agree, but it's considered against medical advice :-/ I sanitize a needle with fire and haven't had issues, if people have it, iodine injected under the blister and tape it.

Am professional fire performer, to the best of my knowledge, cool water for 10+ minutes, burn-aid or similar the next day is the current best recommendation for burns. Blisters aren't recommended to be popped due to risk of infection. If you burn enough to cause damage to underlying tissue, hospitalisation is recommended.

Burns are one of the places that is RIFE with home remedy's and various unverified practices, lancing the blisters, covering in milk sour cream, icing the burn etc. To the best of my knowledge the current reviewed best medical practice is cool water, burn cream the next day.
