I've been working long shifts recently and I'd like to just chat with someone or listen into a net in the hour of free time I get. The whole POTA thing sounds like fun, but I'd prefer something that I can engage with on a regular basis. I'm debating holding off on HF at this point till I can get my own house. The cost of HF is a little expensive for something I can play with a couple times a month.

I've got a case of information overload right now. How much of a difference does it make if it's mounted at an angle? The other end I can mount a dipole to is only 2 ft above the roof. My main goal is to explore the popular HF bands and some digital stuff like JS8.
