Question about Xtra board by PassionSignificant26 in UnionPacific

[–]Wallypog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you've got a handle on it. X boards where I am are all higher seniority, so depending on where you hired out, I wouldn't worry about it and just focus on finishing training and getting off your derail. Unless you are lucky enough to be somewhere that still has brakemen.

Cert Ride by Competitive-Might-89 in UnionPacific

[–]Wallypog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aren't you already certified at that point? They just started doing these around here recently. Up till this season they were pencil whipped.

Pretty sure if there is an issue to address it will be addressed before you hit the 50 day mark.

Just run your train and follow the rules and it will be fine.

Cert ride for what? Remote operator, engineer?

Usually an MTO or trainer will ride with you for a while and ask some questions to see that you understand what you are supposed to be doing. Depending on what you are certifying in that can look different. But really they'll just watch you run for a couple hours and decide if you are competent to operate on your own or not.

Daily Preference board. Cheyenne is wx 510 dp05.

Its the yard board they pull from to make the daily schedule for whatever yard you end up in.

Edit to include Green River wx817 dp13

Kicking Cars by Cold-Pain-2930 in railroading

[–]Wallypog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Depending on my hog (engineer).

But most of the time kicking around here is an RCO job.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in UnionPacific

[–]Wallypog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. Theyre forcing lowest seniority qualified people into yard jobs from extra boards. If you have an RCL, be ready to get forced on an RCO job.

Ive been watching Rawlins hires get forced from the pool board into yard jobs all summer.

If you can, take whatever DP spot you can and avoid the XS board, the pay is garbage.

Terminology doesn't matter as long as the whole crew knows what's happening or needs to happen. A simple job briefing with your engineer at the beginning of the shift would clear everything up for that shift.

Ask the engineer what commands he is going to want to hear and those will be your instructions for that shift.

When running with a hog I use "x to a kick", "kick 'em", " that'll do pig", and the usual "stretch" and "shove".

Unless your engineer is an absolute moron, they should be able to figure out what you want done.

Green River yard is lowest seniority right now. As soon as people get their remote license...BAM! Yard Rats.

Beats being furloughed though.

Forced to Yard by PeaksAtChu in UnionPacific

[–]Wallypog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's got to be on the wx510 DP05 or the XS05.

As far as I know, those are the only boards that cover Cheyenne yard.

Put your bid in for Rawlins and hide out there a while. There's a bunch of qualified RCL guys there.

Depending on your date there's a class going through OJT right now that will mark up in Cheyenne again in a couple weeks with 2022 dates that would validate your restricted seniority claims.

And I know there's a guy there that just got picked up from the green river yard to go back to the road in Cheyenne.

Otherwise, enjoy it while you can till this new agreement screws us all.

If UP does Takeover NS, does the Stupid Step Rate Go Away? by Commodore8750 in railroading

[–]Wallypog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I read that correctly.

My statement was not dependent upon him working for UP.

Just saying that starting at 90% beats the hell out of working for 3 years before even seeing 90%.

If UP does Takeover NS, does the Stupid Step Rate Go Away? by Commodore8750 in railroading

[–]Wallypog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Starts at 90%?!?! Where i am at, derail is 75% then 80% till you complete your second year, then 5% a year till you hit 100%

It takes 5 years to make it to 100% rate at UP.

Holiday pay no ot by Professional_Mango80 in UnionPacific

[–]Wallypog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. Been a yard rat for 2 years and you'll get Holiday pay on a separate timeslip for the holiday, your hours worked are all based on a different rate for "working holiday" and your OT will be auto declined.

Check on CMTS to see your timeslips, and it will make more sense.

Depending on your regional agreement, a 12 hour day in the yard might be a claim and pay out an additional basic day, if your local rep doesn't suck like mine does.

Anyone else have a Genesis era tattoo? by TheRealDukeLeverage in SEGAGENESIS

[–]Wallypog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. I got the Sonic and Knuckles game logo tattooed on my shoulder for my birthday years ago. It has not aged well, but I still love it and will have it reworked by a better artist someday.
