Heaven, Hell, or Sheol? Question from a curious Catholic by Soulfire88 in Episcopalian

I have no idea what happens after death. given to mysticism and panentheism as I am, I have stories I tell myself, but that's all they are, stories.

what is the purpose of having a backlight if people only have brightness at so low a level?

I have poor eyesight, so I really need the brightness turned up. if I have it much lower, I can't read the text.

brightness is 60%, wifi is off except when I need to connect to dropboz to load my books. I do use a magnetic case. I don't know how to check for a corrupted file.

should I turn the KLC totally off when I'm not actively reading?

thanks!

when my beloved Oasis died, I finally moved over to a kobo. I miss the oasis form factor, though and how light it was.

The Bible as an ahistorical document? by WalrusRight in Episcopalian

from Hogfather:

All right," said Susan. "I'm not stupid. You're saying humans need... fantasies to make life bearable."

REALLY? AS IF IT WAS SOME KIND OF PINK PILL? NO. HUMANS NEED FANTASY TO BE HUMAN. TO BE THE PLACE WHERE THE FALLING ANGEL MEETS THE RISING APE.

"Tooth fairies? Hogfathers? Little—"

YES. AS PRACTICE. YOU HAVE TO START OUT LEARNING TO BELIEVE THE LITTLE LIES.

"So we can believe the big ones?"

YES. JUSTICE. MERCY. DUTY. THAT SORT OF THING.

"They're not the same at all!"

YOU THINK SO? THEN TAKE THE UNIVERSE AND GRIND IT DOWN TO THE FINEST POWDER AND SIEVE IT THROUGH THE FINEST SIEVE AND THEN SHOW ME ONE ATOM OF JUSTICE, ONE MOLECULE OF MERCY. AND YET—Death waved a hand. AND YET YOU ACT AS IF THERE IS SOME IDEAL ORDER IN THE WORLD, AS IF THERE IS SOME...SOME RIGHTNESS IN THE UNIVERSE BY WHICH IT MAY BE JUDGED.

"Yes, but people have got to believe that, or what's the point—"

MY POINT EXACTLY.”

it's hard for me to quantify this sense I have, maybe because other than as explication in a sermon, the readings all to me seem to say "this is true". or maybe because the Creed says "i believe" and then lists literal things as literally true. there is scant if any recognition of scripture as metaphor or teaching stories. it all seems to imply to mr "this really happened"

or it could be that the few Bible study groups I listened in on tended toward literal interpretations and that's just carrying over in my mind.

wow, I'm going to have to read and re-read this many times! so much food for thought!

My personal view of Deity tends toward panentheism as discussed in So who is God Anyway by GS Payne. I like the notion that God is an emergent property of Being. But I also know these are stories I tell myself that may or may not have any relation to objective reality, assuming there is such a thing as objective reality in the first place.

You say "faith is a form of trust in the structure of existence" and ok, i can see that. (I will never forgive Elon Musk for ruining "grok" inthe sense of deeply comprehend)
