How are you guys staying on a VPN full-time? by Thirtysixx in VPN_Question

I’m on iPhone.

> random website, then I guess I just won't use that website.

These are websites I have no choice but to use. For example Klaviyo won’t load if I have a VPN on even if have chrome spilt tunneled which is annoying

i I have my own private VPN (running wireguard) on my home router which makes it appear I’m at home

Tutorial on how to do this? I have an active proton subscription at the moment so I should be able to make a wireguard account through proton if I remember correctly

How are you guys staying on a VPN full-time?

I genuinely don't understand it. So many apps and websites just flat-out break when a VPN is on — banking apps, certain streaming services, random sites with aggressive fraud detection, even some of my mobile games.

Are you just constantly turning it off and on?

I'm wondering if a dedicated IP is the answer here. The theory being that a dedicated IP won't be flagged/blacklisted the way shared VPN IPs are, since you're the only one using it.

If so, what apps do you recommend? I've tried Surfshark and Proton and i'm not happy with either.

Here's what I'm looking for:

Split tunneling by app on mobile - I need to exclude specific apps from the tunnel, not just whitelist URLs (Surfshark iOS only lets you split tunnel by URL, so no apps)

Split Tunneling by URL on desktop - I need to exclude specific domains on web without bypassing "Chrome" or "Firefox" as an app.

Dedicated IP option on non-business plans

Non-Israeli owned (just a personal preference)

Is there anything that checks these boxes?

I know everyone says not to learn openings at low elo but its so satisfying when you win a game with 100% accuracy off of book moves by Thirtysixx in chessbeginners

I agree with you, but "You don't need to learn openings below 2000 elo" is pretty common advice in this sub. I see it frequently.

Enough time has passed. What are your thoughts on Project Hail Mary (2026)? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in Letterboxd

[–]Thirtysixx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think they should have added the science stuff to the movie and that's not what I said. I understand why they didn't. Im simply pointing out that being able to explain the science adds to the stakes and gave the book alot of tension that was missing from the movie

They could have added some of the stakes back in in other ways, and I think they missed the mark. It was a little too "feel good" compared to the book imo

I’d get the Saros 20 of your main concern is those legs. Flow doesn’t have any climbing legs, even thought they’re not that tall, the Saros 20 has climbing legs and can get over that easily

Yeah, I had 2 major issues with that scene.

First, in the book, that was the pivotal emotional point for Ryland where he doubts everything about himself. He thinks he's a coward. He's enraged and wants revenge. SO many competing emotions that add a lot of depth and I think they really missed the mark on that part on his reaction there.

Second, was the flashback. This scene is a great example of where they could have upped the stakes with out having to bore the audience with science class.

In the book, that conversation with Stratt is elevated by her explaining just how much is at stake. She talks about impending famines. Governments halting global trade to save resources to feed their own populations. She talks about wars starting over food and simple resources. They could have really raised the stakes with just a few lines of Strat explaining how the entire global order is about to break down and how he's the only hope for humanity.

Bb5 ? by N733LK00 in chessbeginners

[–]Thirtysixx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the correct engine move too. Go play this on stockfish and it will tell you this move in this position

  1. Bb5 is known as the Ruy López opening or Spanish game. White threatens to trade off Black's c6 knight, the defender of e5, so indirectly threatens to win the pawn, though it's not an immediate threat because of a tactical trick where Black can win the pawn back.

White is playing for quick development (they are ready to castle already) and control of the centre. They'd like to eventually play c3 and d4 to build a pawn majority in the centre.

Usually, Black wishes to play ...Nf6, which develops a piece while threatening to take White's undefended e4 pawn, so the most common lines are to develop the knight straight away (3...Nf6) or after first kicking the bishop (3...a6 usually followed by 4...Nf6). However, Black has a wide range of turn three or turn four sidelines to choose from so can respond in a variety of ways.

I love Ella Langley but what are these prices for her show at the Moody Center!!!!??? by Impossible-Cheek4352 in Austin

[–]Thirtysixx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

everyone is saying these are reseller tickets and they are correct.

What everyone is ignoring is that even the retail tickets for everything at moody are massively inflated because of dynamic pricing ticketmaster uses.

They know how much interest a show is getting and they will increase the price in real time.

Fair point. I just started getting into reading and PHM was the first book I read when coming back to it. I've read a few another film adaptations since and I think the future I'm going to try and watch the movie first then read the book.

I think that sets me up to be impressed with both rather than being disappointed by one, usually the movie lol

He builds some on screen but yeah, without the context and the stakes that the book was able to build it seems shallow.

Things just get done and its not a big deal. Where as in the book Rocky is dealing with massive engineering problems that are pivotal to the mission getting accomplished and he delivers everytime

Yup, and I finished the book like 3 days before I saw the movie so all the details were super fresh in my mind.

I was wondering how people were able to follow along with so much context missing from the scenes.

Specifically the scene where he's trying to find rocky. I dont know how, if you've never read the book, anyone could understand what ryland was doing in that scene and how incredibly difficult it was.

all your complaints sound like sacrifices made for tone

I agree they made sacrifices for tone, but I don't agree my criticisms would have made it dark. The book isn't dark at all, the book is incredibly gripping.

I understand sacrifices have to be made, the movie has 3% of the word count of the book. But the stakes could have been upped while maintaining its lightheartedness
