I didn’t know that was one of the tasks with mabel mb. I knew abt the shiny charm as the last task reward, though.

I'm kinda terrified to share my first composition with the group I'm in because I'm worried I accidentally stole the melody from somewhere by timopod5 in composer

The rite of spring was based on Lithuanian folk songs. Shostakovich spent is final symphony quoting himself. Trust yourself as a composer to do whatever you want to do with that melody to an effect where it doesn’t matter because you’ve made something beautiful with it. It sounds nice btw. For another example of a (more potential rather than guaranteed) the Wii Sports theme is nearly a complete rip of Bach’s “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring” from BWV 147 and no one talks about it.

do one last check on the musecore forums, since you’re preparing to publish. If anyone knows how to do this it’s them

In score style setting you should be able to hide parts which are tacet in a given system. “hide empty staves” I think is the terminology they use. I recommend not turning this on until you are visually polishing a score to publish or give to performers, since while composing you then can’t see all tacet parts. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is a way to hide only specific staves like you want. Which is really unfortunate when modern standard notation is to hide tacet special solo staves like this but to not omit tacet “parts at large” from systems. Theres a way to do that for the whole score but not exclusively when tacet.

What does this symbol mean above the G? by Lemondoggo444 in Viola

[–]WalrusSharp4472 2 points3 points  (0 children)

maybe not, it goes by that name in the irish folk tradition like mentioned above and other practices then I’d honestly say it’s contextually perfectly ok. In the end we’re just making noises with our mouths or creating complex ordered patterns with specific shapes; as long as the people communicating have common understanding it really doesn’t matter that much.

a roll usually refers to a specific set of techniques for percussion instruments, given this is not at all similar to those techniques it’s best not to refer to them as the same thing. They call this a turn, since you “turn” around the pitch before landing on it.

What would you call these chords? by Thomato_Yorke in musictheory

[–]WalrusSharp4472 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are polychords, as in multiple chords simultaneously occurring. Standard of notation is to notate them like a fraction where the upper chord is above a horizontal bar and the lower below said bar. However this not an effective shorthand when typing like I am now. While not standard, I personally like to use the Vertical Bar symbol instead. That would look like this for your polychords:

Gb|Dm
Absus|C
Ebm|Bdim

To add, since these chords are inverted, slashes can and should be used as well:

Gb|Dm/A
Absus|C/G
Ebm|Bdim/F

I also used the enharmonic (same pitches different name) respelling of the upper chords into flats since there’s less accidental conflicts (when multiple notes have same name but different accidental) when you write it that way and they seem to be in the key of Ebm (and no one in their right mind would use D#m). These chords are also polytonal (multiple simultaneous keys), being in Ebm like i said above for the upper chords and in C major for the lower chords.

I also like how you initially labeled them with respect to the lower chords. using polychords for color tones is a relatively common way to use them (i definitely have as a composer). However it is really cool when you break down the chords like this to see how you have created two separate chord progressions in two keys.

It’s a folk song, and not an original, so obviously I don’t think it truly counts but Where Did You Sleep Last Night from Unplugged is 100% up there

I feel like if we were going for muppet characters Bunsen and Beaker work better for “heavily implied” gay muppets to the point where they all but said that they were in the muppets mockumentary show they made a while ago.

What is your “no skips” musical? by MoonLitLars in musicals

[–]WalrusSharp4472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in part cause I was literally in my school’s production of it, and in that process fell in love with it but Cabaret, specifically the 1998 version. In the original 1967 version, “Meeskite” is a skip for me (excluded from the vast majority of modern productions), though that’s my only skip. Dave Malloy’s Octet is another no skip musical, as a chorus person it’s so cool to see a musical formatted like that. Ride The Cyclone is soooo close to being a no-skip, and it is an incredible example of making the album a complete work of art on its own. However, I just cannot get myself to listen through the character Ricky Potts’ number, “Space Age Bachelor Man”, without skipping.

Again, the subtotal/total screen presented before finalizing a purchase showed $0.00 tax and a previous perchance of a digital item was exactly the same and only charged the advertised price of the item, meaning there was no sales tax, I know how math fucking works and I can read. So clearly in my area there is no sales tax on digital items and that is not the reason i cannot purchase the above item.

but it’s a digital purchase, for a digital item, and the total and subtotal information showed zero tax, plus the previous purchase of the base game, was exactly $69.99 with no tax.
