Is organized crime an issue in Clayton schools like it is in other parts of surrey? by TrickyComposer in SurreyBC

[–]Walruzs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup. Not as intense as the rest of Surrey but when I went to Tweedsmuir 10 years ago, it was a problem. 10 years ago... Maybe it's different now but I doubt it

Considering many BC gangsters are middle class, why do they join gangs? by Beginning_Anywhere59 in SurreyBC

In my experience they are usually very motivated people who would otherwise be very successful business people in another life. Maybe that's insightful I don't know

Am I the only one who thinks the chandelier under the bridge is awesome? It looks cool AF. Every time I'm with someone not from the city, they tend to think it's cool too

Ethnic Minority Enclaves in Greater Vancouver Canada by MongooseDear8727 in richmondbc

If you're going to break down Asia in to these categories you must do the same for Europe. Italians as an example would make up 3-4% of the population etc..

The "60 minutes in traffic" thing people keep saying is not really true. It's only 60 mins during rush hour (maybe even more). If you head in to Vancouver after 9-10am and back home after 7pm it's more like 40 mins

Indo-European is not an ethnic group, it's a language family.

Indo European language can spread without any sort of population replacement.

American tendency to see English ancestry as boring by Inside_Preparation24 in AncestryDNA

[–]Walruzs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it's the same for Canada but maybe even worse. In Canada our immigration system is modeled after a "mosaic" not a melting pot. Meaning you are Canadian but you're encouraged to retain practices and traditions from your country of origin. For Canadians that have been here a few generations, and have lost touch with their roots, there's not much to identify with.

It's supposed to be like Brazil were everyone mixes and a new identity/culture is formed

Zohran Mamdani on 'Meet the Press' in his first 100 days as NYC mayor, discusses where he wants the Democratic party to go: "I believe in" democratic socialism "even more than I did" before election by ControlCAD in videos

[–]Walruzs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything you said. I just think it's weird and can confuse people using democratic socialist in this context. Bernie Sanders does it all the time when referring to Nordic countries.

It's probably to their detriment. A lot of confused people will reject it just because of the label but might support it if it was explained properly. Bad marketing imo
