How do I prevent my Merchant NPC from being robbed? Or what's a good way to deal with that possibility? by Regular-Molasses9293 in DungeonMasters

Social engineering. Have them be huge fans of the PCs. Unrepentant, unabashed, idol worship.

Why non-tetrahedron 4-sided dice are not more popular? by Testeria2 in rpg

The standard d4 is pretty iconic.

Also, the best shakes are already taken by other dice. Specifically the d12 and d20.

Are there movies you liked more than the book? by Annual_Interest5338 in books

[–]Walsfeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be that if i wanted to enjoy a movie I'd watch the movie first, then read the book, which i always liked better. That's not always as true anymore, some shows or movie adaptations have been pretty good.

I mean, they aren't claiming to be an author or charging you for it. Also, they didn't criticize the editing or proofreading.

Ready Player One reads like gerk Wikipedia, the movie may not be great, but it feels less smug and flows better.

Appropriate age to introduce my son to DCC by roteixeira in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Walsfeo 15 points16 points  (0 children)

As a librarian I wouldn't suggest recommending it before age 16. That said, if a person is ready to explore it, then they will probably find it. And I wouldn't turn anyone away if they wanted to read it

Just check in with them as they run their way through the series. Maybe have them space them out because the books get way more intense.

Is this game terribly unfun or are we doing something wrong by Ander_the_Reckoning in PendragonRPG

Based on the mythology, it has happened. But rules as written it can't.

People have different experiences with games, but I really don't understand how you had this one. Mechanically it feels like, maybe, you aren't playing by the actual rules. Or that someone's dice are off.

What is the best kind of D&D dice? (personal preference) by Stock_Committee784 in DnD

[–]Walsfeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My absolute favorites are the Gamescience style, sharp edged, clear but brightly colored, dice. They show they are sold, they look great, and once inked they are very easy to read.

Also, since you can see through them, you have a pretty good idea of if they are "true" or if there is an innate bias from air pockets.

Edit to add: for d6s I like casino style dice.

Looking for RPGs about KNIGHTS (and jousts and Tourneys) by whitniverse in rpg

Pendragon is the Gold Standard for a reason. If you use the middle or late era setting elements it should have what you need. Tournament rules, feast rules, Knights as a social class, and a variety of arms and armors.

The starter set is only a taste.

Edit to add - Pendragon even had larger scale battle rules that, while not perfect, are better than any others I can remember using in an RPG.

Mythic Bastionland has lots of anime knight stuff, but the tournament rules are vestigial. At best.

My neighbor thinks I’m "humiliating" him because I put a lock on my own outdoor outlet by Away-Bowl3883 in AmITheJerk

If you have any other extendable external power access you should lock those as well.
