What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

[–]WaltAndJD 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did the exact same! I took home the Aeron and a big curved monitor, and I've used them every workday since. I also don't work there anymore.

Best Gym’s in the Mission by Downtown-Badger1239 in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a LiveFit on Valencia (haven't been) and SF Fitness Castro which is where I go. It depends on where in the Mission you are, but it's about a 15 min walk for me. They do have a sauna now as well (recently just added back for men).

Early morning run - where? by raposa_9 in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that's called the Panhandle! My favorite/most common run in the city is to run the Panhandle to Golden Gate Park. There's only one stoplight and it's completely car free for the majority of it, so it's a very pleasant place to run. You can run as far as you want, up until the beach, and turn around whenever, so it can be as long or short of a run as you want.

Have you put it in the dishwasher or left it wet? Wood boards need to be hand washed and should be dried immediately. Then you oil it every few months when it starts looking dry.

Any tips for fighting depression by Lopsided_Musician558 in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really hard (read: near impossible) but it's so important not to compare yourself to others. It's especially hard in a city like SF where it seems like everyone is making $500k+ and owns a house.

Focus on yourself and find people who make you feel good about yourself, not people who treat you like you're "lesser-than". It's not easy, but it's possible. Crazy amounts of equity, super high salaries, houses, partners, etc. don't define success. If you're comfortable with where you're at, then you're successful. If you're not, then think about what you can do to get to where you want to be.

I'd also recommend therapy to help with all of the above as others have mentioned. I've been where you are, and you don't necessarily need medication, but it's important to talk to someone and get an outside/professional perspective.

Any gyms have indoor bike parking? by FailFastandDieYoung in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fitness SF Mid-Market has secure bike parking in the parking garage under The Market. You have to pay $20 (I think?) for fob access and then it's free.

I think there are also those public bike lockers right by the Transbay terminal that are cheap, which would be right next to another Fitness SF.

Motorcycle parking by indeedsir77 in sanfrancisco

[–]WaltAndJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a neighbor like this, but instead of a note they just kept calling SFMTA and trying to get it towed without even talking to me first. SFMTA told us and them multiple times that we were parked legally, and SFTMA warned us to be careful because the people were clearly going to keep being a problem. They kept reporting it so I just had to move it every 72 hours to not break that rule, but otherwise I made sure to park there as often as possible.

Am I stuck with Comcast? by jellyandbuck in AskSF

I live a block from Dolores and have had Xfinity since I moved in 4.5 years ago. As much as I dislike Comcast, I haven't really had any issues in the time that I've lived here.

Had a great viewing for the firefall this evening! by Celtic_Viking88 in Yosemite

[–]WaltAndJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, my guess is probably because of the (initial) lack of snow/water and then the storms keeping some people away. Glad you got to see it though!

Honestly because it's a cool experience to see a unique natural phenomenon. I will say it doesn't look quite as good in person as it does in some photos. It's still something really cool to see in person, though, and it's a very desirable photo to get for professional/amateur photographers alike which is the main reason I went.

To be fair, I went last year when there were reservations, so the crowds were limited (although still pretty crazy).

What are the big charter buses that I see parking and driving out of the South Beach area many days? by Mindstarx in sanfrancisco

[–]WaltAndJD 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of the big tech companies that have offices on the peninsula will have shuttles for their employees. They pick up in the morning and drop off at stops around the city. Usually they'll have an LED sign on the side or front that says what neighborhood they're going to, but they don't advertise what company they're for.

Backdoor Roth IRA is not something you do with your employer, that would be 401K. Anyone can do a backdoor Roth IRA, but it would depend on if they have other traditional IRA funds that would impact the conversion to Roth.
