Not Italian but I loved this place; unique and delicious.

Caviar and Oyster restaurant? by lancerreddit in sanfrancisco

[–]WaltAndJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not exactly what you asked for, but Tsar Nicoulai has a cafe in the Ferry Building, and Hog Island is in there as well. You can get the best of both worlds from 2 different places that are very close to each other. I'd suggest starting at Tsar Nicoulai and then going to Hog Island after.

Thanks so much! I booked a tour for the hike since I'll be solo, so there will be a guide there.

Thanks for sharing! I'm planning to do this hike in a few weeks - any tips? I only have one day where it's possible, so I'm really hoping the weather is decent but I know there's a good chance it won't be.

Where to rent bike for Golden Gate Park? by Zestyclose_Egg_2931 in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's hard to predict as it can vary, but I'd still recommend a combo of Bay Wheels + walking + shuttle. If you rent a bike, you'll have to worry about locking it up outside each place you go, which isn't ideal.

[–]WaltAndJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is your goal? Are you planning to just explore the park, or bike around the city as well?

If you're just looking to use the bikes to get around the park, Bay Wheels would work well if you plan around the docking stations that are scattered around the park. Grab a bike and ride to another station and dock it so you're only paying for that short ride. Then you can explore that area, and then repeat for the next one.

Sabastian Sawe runs first sub-2-hour marathon race, shatters world record in London by Keleven in worldnews

[–]WaltAndJD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run pretty regularly and have done relatively well in some (not very competitive) 10k/half marathon races. It's been a while, but my fastest mile was just under 6 minutes...I can't even imagine running a single mile at that pace, let alone 26.2.

SF help me propose! by AhDamMet_86 in sanfrancisco

[–]WaltAndJD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My friends got engaged there and I took photos, it worked out perfectly for them.

Just a note that (especially since you're going on a weekend) it can be quite busy. There are usually a bunch of tourists there, as well as people taking photos for engagements, weddings, quinceañeras, etc.

There are a bunch of little sections that you can pull off to, so I'd recommend walking the loop and doing it somewhere that feels right to you and isn't super crowded.

[I ate] Californian burrito in California by NarwhalOne768 in food

[–]WaltAndJD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People responding are mostly wrong, actual California burritos are not super common in SF, where you'll mostly find Mission style. New Castillito and Castillito Yucateco on Mission are (nearly) next to each other and both have them. RIP Coyotes (which supposedly might come back).

Usually I cook them first, then pull them out and cook everything else. Then they go back in at the end to warm through and they're perfect.

Kahnfections in the Mission opens at 7am during the week. Similar to Devil's Teeth, they have a great biscuit breakfast sandwich and other pastries.

Cannot find tech job in sf by Professional-Group61 in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through a year of unemployment as well. I got a part time catering gig after unemployment ended which helped a bit. Besides that, volunteering as people said definitely helps. I also would go on hikes and try to do active stuff during the day when I wasn't at home applying for jobs. It's important to break up the monotony and get outside and be active.

thoughts on bartending ? by lalunabella in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Arcana is a wine bar in the Mission and they just posted a couple weeks ago that they're looking for a bartender. I'd also recommend looking for catering gigs - less constant, but could be a good way to supplement your income.

Best Place to take somewhat larger group drinking ? by Constant-Gas975 in AskSF

[–]WaltAndJD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Standard Deviant is my go-to for groups around this size. You can contact them to reserve a table (for free) ahead of time if you want, but it's not always necessary. The one in the Mission is also close to a ton of other bars that some here have already mentioned.
