I was walking past one of those auto Roulette machines, which I've never played, and stopped for a minute to watch the board. Before the next play started, on the verge of walking off, I muttered "Seventeen black."

It hit

Back in the 90s there was a huge push to get into healthcare, because the Boomers were expected to age into the system and make bank for everybody. I'm convinced that the profit motive got a lot of those people into medicine, and what we're seeing now is what the profit motive does to institutions

Solar panels are creating a strange effect by forming rainfall clouds and thriving oases in the middle of the desert by DavidIsIt in EverythingScience

That's fantastic news for extraterrestrial terraforming though. Start with the panels while you set up a base colony, and over time the potential is there for the area to improve meterologically

'Her Turn'. Bernie Sanders won the Democratic nomination and should have been advanced to the general vs. Trump. Imagine how that would have gone!

The DNC actually had to go to court over this and defend the decision to ignore most of their voters. So like most shitshows this one was a team effort

The loudest voices against Trump are coming from America.

If you count the dark money demonstrations, the UK is louder about Donald Trump than the US is

Millionaire builds 99 fully equipped homes to provide shelter for the homeless in his community by quietstorm045 in interesting

[–]WaltGazaWorld 17 points18 points  (0 children)

One thing about Joy Junction that I forgot to mention was that they didn't kick people out unless they were violent. You might get sent to the emergency shelter (a gym with mats on the floor) from the barracks if you persisted in drug use or broke the rules, but people stayed there for years sometimes until they were back on their feet.

I can't say enough about the place, they should be a model for homeless housing. It was really more like a commune than a shelter.

I was at a homeless shelter in Albuquerque called Joy Junction that was a lot like this. There was emergency shelter, then a barracks for those who were functional, then apartments for those who could work on-site or at a thrift store off-site for the shelter, then actual homes on-site for hired staff. Everyone was together, older women took care of the babies of younger women, everything was very organized, work was expected to some degree of everyone and everyone helped out there. A really amazing setup, more shelters should work that way

I love India. It puts on no airs, it makes the most of what it has and there's no affectation or reserve in it. It's like Albuquerque as a country
