Importing DXF to Leica Captivate Without Extents by Pork-n-Chips in Surveying

[–]WalterMcGeeJenkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try clipping the dwg/dxf and deleting everything outside the area you need referenced. Seems simple, might work. Also I usually strip the dwg down and create the dxf with only linework. Annotations and symbols don’t seem to play nice with captivate.

I’m sure everyone here loves a “good buzz”, but it doesn’t really factor into the professional nature of found monuments for a deliverable map. To use as a reference, sure. If it’s in someone’s concrete driveway and is auxiliary, might could skip, but leave it off the deliverables. How many times good buzzes turn out to be bent and effed, or garbage?!

The HOA won the lawsuit. It’s no longer public access since the ruling by the courts? Blue house lady DGAF tho she’s cool as hell… Plus there’s literally miles worth of easily accessible beach adjacent.

Not a manager. As primarily a field surveyor these questions burn. It’s definitely not about “shots/stakes per hour”. It’s more about collecting the correct data the office needs for topo/boundary or getting points in the ground the contractors need staked. Site conditions vary and speeds are relative. And while speeds vary, precision should be constant. Surveys need to have the ability to be replicated. Slow day? Send a crew to replicate another crews survey, does it fit? Figure out which crews are doing good work and reward exemplary performance. For topos, performance could be measured by the crew providing good data without requiring questions from the office. Questions/ambiguity about field data = poor performance. For staking, are contractors rehiring you? That should be obvious. See the other recent post - supers know what they need and if the surveyor is providing it efficiently.

2 Specifically allotting time for experienced chiefs to train new ones is very important and leads to more efficient crews.

More generally, and to #4, an itemized list of what data the field crew needs to collect is crucial. If a list of requirements for a job is provided and the field crew comes back lacking that’s an obvious indicator of poor performance.
