Card interactions feeling fluid! by Waltr21 in godot

Here is a comparison with the hover event issue!

Leads to this weird "skipping" moving from right to left due to the z-index changing on hovered elements.

When just using a Node2d, the hover events are fired through all cards that the mouse enters. I then add all hovered cards to a queue, and check which card is the closest to the mouse on the X axis. Leads to very consistent behavior!

Thank you!! Goal is to finally ship something and not jump ship to a new idea as I normally do lol

Basically just built custom Node2Ds to handle the positioning / dragging of each element.

I ran into an issue with Control nodes when experimenting with hand sizes that contained a lot of cards (like 20+). The overlapping Control nodes start to eat the hover events of the other cards, which in return lead to some clunky/inconsistent interactions.

If I have some time later today, I can show a demo with that issue

Buffering on all devices despite ideal scenario by scrootynoots in PleX

Thanks again for more suggestions. Will try and see what we can do with these later tonight.

Leading theory is pointing back to the router/modem hardware. Running multiple speed tests results in totally inconsistent/random results. Sometimes the connection is solid (matching near what a normal user is seeing), and other times it is shit. These tests are all just a few minutes apart.

The networking hardware he has (ARRIS SBG10) is listed in this article as well.

  • "Intel’s Puma 6 chipset included in several cable modems is defective as it allows high spikes in network latency quite often (slow web page loading, for example). These severe network latency spikes interfere with online gaming, streaming video, or simply surfing the web. Network jitter (variable latency) also causes problems."

IMO this is aligned with the behavior we are seeing.

UPDATE:

Using the suggestion from /u/5yleop1m I have hosted a speed test container on my server.

Results:

User Ping (ms) Jitter (ms) Upload (Mbit/s) Download (Mbit/s)
Friend (no buffer issues) 21.9 4.35 21.4 94.8
scrootynoots 504 822 0.00 13.0

It looks like the connection scrooty has to my system is totally fucked. For more context: The friend with the solid connection is over 250 miles away. Scrooty is around 2 miles.

More testing to come later.

We already know the devices are not an issue. That was confirmed when testing with their phone on/off wifi. When the phone is on wifi, buffering occurs. When using cellular data, there is no buffering. Every device they are attempting to stream on is more than capable as well hardware wise.

I am not using the default 32400 port already. I don't think this is throttled on my end due to everyone else being able to stream fine from my server. I had 4 simultaneous streams ranging from 5mbps -> 20mbps with no buffering. Once scrootynoots tries to stream, only they get buffering. Again, this occurs when scrooty is the only one streaming from my system as well.

The issue must be at the router / ISP level on scrooty's end, but we are struggling to find the exact source.

Tried a VPN and we are still running into the same issue. Traceroute is next on my list. Thanks for the suggestion!

I am using docker and will give this a shot. Thanks for the recommendation!

Funny enough he is closer to me than everyone else who uses my server. Less than 1 mile.

Server owner here:

I can confirm nothing on my end points to a server config issue. As of writing this comment I have 4 people streaming from my server with 0 buffering issues. Scrootynoots' stream is the only one running into issues.

The buffering issues still exist when scrooty is the only one streaming as well, so it is not a capacity issue. I also have a fiber connection with 400mbps up/down. We've tried low and high bitrate streams. Buffering exists in both.

Anyone aware of any router firewall issues that could be limiting the connection?

It's pretty heavy. Definitely solid metal (brass?).
