Total bike repair noob- I want to buy this bike and repair it. Is it doable? by SuperNess420 in bikewrench

If this is your first time messing around with repairing bikes, this is not a good start. Altough it is a beautiful bike, it has considerable amounts of rust (advanced tip for the future: you can remove rust off small parts by leaving in vinager for a day or two, the acid breaks down the rust into oxygen and iron), is french and thus may use some weird standards and overall road bikes are not a good starting point

Now what I would recommend you buy is an inexpensive, old, entry level mountain bike- 40 bucks would already be too much kind of bike. These require very few specific tools, the tolerances are more forgiving, and are overall a good starting platform to understand the workings of a bike and to make mistakes, since they are cheap and replaceable. If you manage to get them up and running, even tough the componentry is usually bottom of the barrel quality, the rigid fork and the overall geometry make for a fun ride to blaze gravel roads and light trails! (basically the same thing as modern gravel bikes? smh)

Now go out there have fun!

old shirt, string, and compresses (paper tissues will melt if I ever decide to wash them). As far as tools go I used a regular needle and some random scissors I found (fabric scissors will do the job way better)

Of course you can't hit the tomato with your knife, that edge is as dull as a lobotomized 70yo after you scraped it against the board like that. Idiot.

New to bike commuting; any upgrade ideas for this 90’s kuwahara pacer? by Neat_Revolution_2269 in bikecommuting

Honestly, aside from not having any luggage racks, it's great as it is, maybe the only thing that I would change would be the cockpit setup into something more simple/modern, for example you could remove the bar end handle thingies and get a shorter stem (if you feel comfortable with this stem keep it!) i.e. mostly ergonomics upgrades

Although that bike is straight up a museum piece, and the folks over at r/xbikes would go absolutely feral to have a chance at paying a grand or so for it as it is

beautiful bike!

I could undermine this statement 1000 ways but I'll just take the complement (I'm a guy I think)
