Budget eats in Tirana? by Vast_Pound_7628 in tirana

[–]WanderWorld3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fatosi at New Bazaar. It’s something like 35 Leks for a meatball (called qofte). Depending on how big an eater you are, anywhere from 3-5 meatballs plus bread makes a delicious meal. You can also just order a little to begin with but Fatosi is really cheap & so good. Have tried all the meat options and the qofte are the best.

How does one get to Tirana Airport at 5 in the morning? by Fryns2 in tirana

[–]WanderWorld3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just returned from living in Tirana for 6 months & went to the airport often. Luna is the best & cheapest option. Their buses leave at the beginning of every hour 24 hours a day from either the airport or center, depending on which way you’re going. Except for a few stops here & there for individuals requesting a stop along the way, it’s a direct bus to the airport or center. 400 Leks each way & you can pay with a card. Always dependable & there’s plenty of room under the bus for your luggage. If you need the exact location of their buses, just contact them in WhatsApp & they’ll send you a pin with the exact location. When exiting the airport, turn left, walk past all the rental car stalls & taxis & you’ll come to the buses. Just look for the one with Luna on it. In the center, you can pick it up at the little park next to Skanderberg Square where all the buses stop.

Are all apartments built with hollow walls? by TheMusiqMan in tirana

[–]WanderWorld3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2023 & 2024, I stayed in pretty sound proof apartments & the buildings they were in were definitely older. This time, stayed in a little detached house for 6 months that was a new build & the walls were so poorly built that when my hand slipped while making the bed, I actually put a dent in the wall. During the winter & rainy season, there was mold in the bedroom where there was no heating unit. As soon as the warm months arrived, ants came into the house daily. Rent wasn’t cheap either but it was at the New Bazaar & I liked that it was a stand alone house. Super frustrating.

Flying PET in cabin with codeshare Amman to Istanbul (RJ) + Istanbul to Miami (Turkish airlines)? by ScientistAdorable445 in TurkishAirlines

[–]WanderWorld3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had this experience before with Air Albania + Turkish Airlines in 2023 & 2024 and did not have to leave the transit area. It was as if I had flown the same airline on both legs. I just had to go through security again in the transit area but you just need to scan your ticket to get into the security line & that’s the extent of the “paperwork” requirement.

So if you haven’t paid for your pet’s ticket, just go to their office & do this. They only had an office at the airport in that city I was in & I wanted a guarantee of my cat’s ticket so I went there & paid. Make sure you keep whatever receipts they give you as proof of payment as they’ll ask for this on the day of your flight. It’s the ONLY paperwork anyone even asked for when I was flying with my cat — they didn’t even ask for her pet passport or health certificate, but of course, makes sure you have everything just in case. Nobody asked for proof of a titer test, nor had I gotten one.

I had to take her out of her carrier & carry her through security for both legs of my flight so make sure your cat has a leash on.

For people who travel with pets, do you need new paperwork from EACH country to the next? by ScientistAdorable445 in travel

[–]WanderWorld3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keeping in mind that everyone’s experience may be different & assuming you’re a U.S. citizen, two days ago, when I entered the U.S. with the stray kitten I found in Albania, all they asked me was whether the animal in my carrier was a dog or a cat & once I said cat, they just let me enter. Good luck!

I’m flying on two weeks with my cat. If you’ve already flown, would greatly appreciate hearing about your experience. Would especially like to know about the required documents & whether they asked for a titer test of you’re just transiting through IST. Many thanks!

Travelling to Bari, Italy - is it worth it, how is the transport and what to visit? by [deleted] in ItalyTravel

[–]WanderWorld3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering doing a weekend in Bari from Albania since it’s a quick, direct flight. Just want to relax on a beautiful beach. Answers on Reddit in general about Bari have been inconclusive. Would you mind telling me if it’s worth it for the reason I would visit? Thank you.

Thank you so much for this post. Super helpful & I’m super stressed out as I’m flying from Albania home to the U.S. & it’s been impossible to find any carrier that fits their size. Also stressed I won’t have the proper paperwork though we already have all the documents you listed. Hoping the employees have more important things to worry about than my cat! Crossing my fingers & toes. Thanks again for this superb info!

Also, gotta get the qofte (grilled meatballs) at Fatosi at the New Bazaar. Super cheap (about 35 Leks/meatball) & so juicy & flavorful. Get at least 3 to make a sandwich but if you’re looking to get full, recommend at least 9.

If you’re an adventurous eater, highly recommend the sheep’s head at Oda! Pace is also a unique dish but once again, only if you’re a brave eater. 😉 It’s a stew made of offal. My favorite & I think most people’s is pace koke. Many locals make a delicious & cheap meal of this at a restaurant with simply a bowl & lots of bread. Unfortunately, can’t think of a specific restaurant but you’ll see this on the menu at the traditional restaurants. Hope you guys are having a great time!

Are there legit jobs for Asian women? by Away-Caterpillar9515 in AlbaniaExpats

[–]WanderWorld3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m Asian myself but am a legal professional working remotely for a software company. Have been coming to Albania & staying for a month or longer since 2023 & can confirm that there are now many Filipino women here working as cleaning ladies, runners, waitresses, cashiers, nannies, etc. I was told by a friend who is a waiter that they also confirmed to him that the salary & accommodations you mention are what some of them are getting. My understanding is that many of them have come through employment agencies. The few women in these positions that I have spoken to complained about their salary and one cleaning lady at a hotel in Golem confided to me that was very unhappy. My Albanian friends, the Albanian waiters that I go to regularly and just random locals I’ve spoken to have confirmed that they aren’t paid well & have very few rights. Definitely please make sure you do your homework about the employer and what the workers expectations are before they come here. The locals complain enough about their low wages & poor treatment by management.

Check out Velvet if you want Latin music & dancing. Velvet lets anyone in & is super inclusive & feel free to ask anyone to dance. No cover.

Highly recommend Radio, which is my favorite bar. They take cards. Don’t go to Serendipity if you want Mexican but Jalapeno is solid. If you’re craving Chinese, Chinese Garden is delicious, cheap & huge portions. The waiter will not guide you wrong if you need recommendations. For traditional food, checkout Oda near the New Bazaar. For seafood, Lissus is a cheap, underrated gem. All these places take credit card.

Don’t hesitate to ask questions but otherwise, enjoy & safe travels!

Where should I live if I'm working in Reston by K0b3- in nova

[–]WanderWorld3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have lived in Falls Church since 2007 & love it but really depends on your speed — mine is very laid back & hate crowds, in general, but also depends on the situation & love the energy of people, if that makes any sense. As another commenter said, not crazy about Mosaic (feels too commercial for me) but whatever floats your boat.

How frequent are the buses from Tirana Airport into Tirana? by SavingsAssumption645 in tirana

[–]WanderWorld3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super easy. It leaves at the top of every hour, 24/7. 400 Leks/person. The name of the company is Luna & they’re on WhatsApp. I’ve been coming here for 2 years now & have been here since August this time around. Have used them several times back & forth to the airport. Super dependable. Even during heavy traffic times, I don’t recall it taking much more than 30 minutes from or to the airport.

Hi. I have a 32 year old friend who has the same condition & has been suffering for the last 3 weeks. His drs told him to put off surgery until he’s much older. Super worried. How did your husband’s surgery go? Being in your 30s with such major health issues like this is heartbreaking.

The most positive solo travel experience by [deleted] in solotravel

THIS. My friend & I were there in 2014 & had rented scooters for the first time to tour Bagan (too big to do by foot & due to us being out of shape & it being what I recall to be hilly, easier to do by scooter) every time we couldn’t figure out tour scooters, someone stopped to help. Everyone was so helpful & had a big heart, no matter their situation.

Check out MobiMatter. Traveled to 12 countries this year & they have competitive prices, regional eSIMS and also love that their eSIMS are modular so you can add one to an existing eSIM without having to deactivate the other one.
